foudn out this morning that a fellow rider died Sat night...

sad sad day....

Sat night we split up into two groups... I took a group down to a new spot i found to do stoppies and wheelies. The other group went down to Norman and rode up and down one of the small highways there... Car crossed over the centerline, and he swerved and wrecked. Died either in the medi-vac on teh way to the hospital, or in surgery (not sure which).

Whats weird is i didnt even know his name untill after he died... I also realized it was the same guy i had helped fix a flat in his front tire that very night.... Feels very weird.

on top of it all, there were 2 other accidents that weekend. One was with our group - kid misjudged his stopping distance by a LONG shot - ran a wheelie to long and fast, and didnt have room to slow down - ran off the edge of the cement, hit a curb, and just barely missed soem large landscaping rocks. He didnt get hurt much, but his bike is totaled.

No, i'm not going to stop riding. The tragic accident was a fluke or "bad luck" with the car over the center line... the other two were user errors and completely avoidable. I try not to have those avoidable accidents, so all i have to worry about is those fluke bad luck accidents.

Brett (left) forever in the memories of myself and other bikers in the Oklahoma/Kansas/Texas region...

I know way too many people who have been hit by other vehicles. It wasn't their fault at all, just the other idiots on the road. I rank driving a motorcycle on today's busy highways with skydiving or some other dangerous sport.

That sucks...

God Speed Brett....

It's true i'm more afraid of other drivers than of my ability to control the bike. I've been nearly clipped a couple of times by people who just don't "see" motorcycles.

although i dont understand why this got moved to automotive... doesn't really have anything to do with automotive. Its a memorial thread about someones death. doesnt really matter what forum its in though.

that's sad, man.

r.i.p. brett

i'll be honest....when i'm driving and i see bikers, i try to get away from them as quickly as possible. it just frightens me to have my car next to someone who is exposed like that. i just don't want something to happen and end up to close to someone.

RIP Brett. That's a real tragidy. My brother had a friend die on a motorcycle on the highway not far from here. Thing is when he found out, he(my brother) was drinking one of the beers his friend(the one that died) had given him at a party the previous night. Probably similar to that weird feeling you have/had.
