trucks and shells

anyone 'round here interested in trucks, particularily 4x's with camper shells? mine's a '00 Toyota which i've started to do some things to in order to make sleeping in the back real comfortable:

1. got a boot between the shell and cab, making it air/water tight. can climb through the window from the bed into the cab and play music, turn on fans, etc
2. there's a fan that clips between the shell and cab, plugs into the cig lighter
3. remote start, so that i can turn the AC/Heat on and it comes through the window.
4. "custom" curtains, made of black felt on the inside to block light and white felt on the outside to reflect heat.

it's a work in progress. i've got some other plans, now i just have to save up the loot to do it.

EDIT: BTW, i'm not homeless or anything. i go to a lot of festivals where it's easier to sleep in the truck that set up a tent. and i do a lot of backpacking, and most times the first night i don't get there unitl way late, so i just sleep in the back.

Yeah, several of my family friends do this a lot. I could see it being kind of hard with a truck that isn't full-sized however: I just don't see the bed as being deep enough.

So, did you remove the window between the cab and bed, or are you just a whole lot smaller than me?

nah, i didn't remove the window. there is a [removable] rubber boot that sort of looks like a square doughnut. you put it between the cab window and the shell window and blow it up. makes a tight seal. then you just crawl through the window. i'm 6' and 186 pounds and i have no problem fitting.

i learned the hard way that you can't leave it on. i put it on in october, and left it for the winter. bunch of trash and leaves got caught in it and rubbed the pait off the back of the cab and the shell...cost about 5 bills to fix.

as for the size, plenty big enough for me and my girl. it's a tacoma, a tundra would be better

the next thing i want is a carpeted bedliner.

Yeah, boots are the only way to go, if you are leaving a camper on like that. What kind of camper shell is it?

it's a century. although it's not my first choice, it was on the truck when i bought it. not a bad shell. i'd like to replace it with an A.R.E shell. i think those are the best. i've on got 1/4 slide windows, and i could definatly use the ventilation of 1/2 slides too. plus, i'd like to have it carpeted.
