The JZA80 is one of the better vehicles to mod. The Silvia conversion is not bad either.

All those cars are nice. I know there are those out there that are Honda-haters even though Civics are the '57 Chevy of our generation like it or not, but you have to admit that is one clean Civic hatchback. It's refreshing to see an article in a major publication about imports that knows that "Fast and the Furious" rice cars isn't what it's all about.

i personnaly enjoyed the article and i like to work on my car..people who dont like rice didnt get exposed to it right. they saw the huge wings and chrome wheels...while there is nothing wrong with it, it doenst appeal to alot of people.

the problem with "rice" is that most of the cars out there dont have the bite to match the bark. the cars in the article were awesome with show quality work on the outside, but with the performance mods to match it. most ricers add a cold air intake (often without a heat shield) and a muffler. most ricers just do exterior mods.

"and it's not uncommon to find street-legal econorockets fast enough to humiliate a Corvette Z06."

Not really. If the Civic people only used a box of tools to get that kind of power, then you could compare it. How can these people spend thousands of dollars in extra parts alone and say it is better because it is just as fast and cheaper? Crazy. |

The Civic has been compared over and over to the '57 Chevy. By that, I think people mean that the two platforms are analogous to each other because they are the most favored car for the baby boomer generation and generation y respectively. I'm not saying that modifying Civics for either show or go is the best choice of car, but it's an undeniable fact that the popularity of the Civic for such reasons are on the same level as the Chevy Bel Air was back then. Just go on carsdomain.com and see how the number of Civics on there out number everything else. Bowtie tuners didn't get globs of power just with hand tools either. They had to buy and customize parts albeit the parts were much cheaper. There's only so much you can do by tweaking a carb with a screwdriver and hacking off mufflers. Chris |
