Motorcycle woes....

My friend has a motorcycle that he would practically give away to me. The only problem is that he got it from someone and so he has no paper work on it! I tried to get him to get me the VIN # and he couldn't find it. All he could manage to get was this number-
GS450-501471
I figured that this was probably the serial number and not the VIN #. I really need some transportation right now and I thought this little Suzuki 450 would be nice to own, but I am racking my brain trying to figure this one out.... Any ideas? I suggested maybe he could take it to a junk yard and get a salvage title put on it and then I could but it from the junk yard or something? I dunno....

ya there usually is a procedure for that kinda thing in most states.

find a suzuki mc dealer and ask them where the VIN is on the frame. maybe the number you have IS the VIN.

i'd use the salvage option as a last resort.

do NOT call teh dealer or DMV.... if there really is NO VIN, your buddy could be in trouble.

look for the VIN stamped into the left or right side of the gooseneck. (where the forks go through). It will be stamped in.

if the bike or frame has been painted, it might be covered over.
