Report a fender bender?

I just got into a small fender bender on my way back from town. I have a truck and the girl who crashed into me had a little honda, so needless to say nothing happened to my truck except for a little paint on my bumper. Her fender got bent and her light popped out, but it wasn't too bad either. She was all shaken up and gave me her info, and now I am wondering whether to report it or not. I don't want my insurance rates going up, but I also don't want her calling and saying it was my fault.

What would you do? Should I call the police as well?

I would at least call my ins. co, especially if it wasn't my fault. Also I would be tempted to call the cops and have them file a report.

You'll wish you had, if you get a letter from her lawyer in a couple of days... requesting payment for her injuries, which conveniently are going to require her to be out of work for several months, which, by the way, is going to mean someone is going to have to pay for child care too since she can't bend over to pick up her kids anymore and she can't look after herself, so you might as well just sign this release and let your insurance company take care of it.

or maybe I'm just paranoid. In any case I would let them (the ins. co) know about it, even if you had no real damage to your truck.

Well, if she ran into you, then it's her fault. Period. End of discussion. Report it to your insurance company and tell them no damage was done. Take pictures of it if you have to.

Your insurance rates won't go up because somebody else hit you. In 99.9% of all fender benders, the person in the rear is at fault.

Who is your insurance carrier?

You are required by law to report it if there were more than $500 worth of damage. That means if there was any paint transfer or the tinyest little dent, report it.

If you were hit then it is their fault and your insurance company can't justify raising rates.

Go see a doctor even if you are not hurt! You should always see a doctor within 24 hours, you might have pain tomorrow and you need her insurance company to pay for it if you need pain meds or therapy. Even a small impact can cause serious injury.

File with the DMV,
Report it to your insurance company,
See a doctor.

Cover your ass.

For get the DMV. Get a signed statement from her. Keep things hush hush. No need to have to explain this accident to EVERY insurance company you switch to. Plus you've already document the accident (publicly). You have plenty of evidence on your side if she decides to turn evil.

Thanks everyone for your reply. My insurance company is Mercury. I didn't end up calling them today but I will give them a call tomorrow and let them know what's up.

By the way the girl who hit me had a nice rack.

Not only are you supposed to keep a disposable camera in your glove box for accidents such as this... BUT, you also need the camera to take pictures of chicks with nice racks!

Is that the reason why you didn't call your insurance company yet? I would say it's a pretty darn good reason.

Look at the bright side. Now you got her number, and it didn't even cost you a beer!

That's right I hadn't thought of it that way. I guess I lucked out!

Coleslaw, I think you've convinced me to put my old digicam in my glove compartment
