My 64 1/2 Mustang

I restored a 64 1/2 Mustang around 15 years ago. I left it outside on the driveway uncovered (Dumb, I know).

Well, the car's front rugs have faded and the two bucket seats have also been baked because of the sun's rays and the high temperature inside the interior. Those things are easily fixable.

My dilemma: It is a six cylinder stick with manual steering and no air. If I fixed everything and tried to sell it, there may not be many prospective buyers considering how basic the car is.

I am considering going all out: installing a custom front frame section from Heidt's which utilizes Mustang II suspension with a power steering rack and coil over springs with disc brakes. I am also considering beefing up the rear. Plus I will add a 302 engine out of a later model car (carbureted) along with a decent automatic tranny. I am not sure if A/C is absolutely necessary.

These mods will set me back another $4000 or so and lots of labor.

I go to a car auction in Atlantic City every February which sells everything from antiques to classics to Pro Street.
It appears that highly modified cars in good taste are bringing as much money as numbered original cars.

What to do?

If it were a later model I'd say go for it, but being it is a 64 1/2, the first year the car was produced, Keep it original.

The Old Car Price Guide says around $6000, but I am still not sure that with the manual trans and no power steering that many people would be interested.

Dude, I am all amount manuel transmission, no power steering, and no AC. SAVES WEIGHT!!!
I don't know about you guys but [drools]:

All I have to say is that these things are beautiful.
Anyways, back to your question, NO. Do not spend more because you will not recoupe your investment. Go here: www.collectorcartraderonline.com . Serch for your car and you will see what other cars like yours are going for. Also you will probably get more for your car if you go through the whole ebay route. Just look: http://search.ebay.com/ws/search/Sal...ustang&from=R8 . Although it is only 4 grand you are investing, don't forget all your time of having to take the car everywhere and get it done right, just sell it now and get if off your hands. P.S. you have any pics of it?

I didn't mention that the lower part of the passenger door rusted pretty bad, including the hood. But I am going to repair the door and replace the hood. So it's going to require a new paint job.

It's all red, nothing special except for real wire wheels and it's lowered in the front.

BTW, I did all the work myself and if I modify it, I will also do it myself.

Those are just the "breaks" I guess.

Pretty clever.
