so what gas do you fill up at the most?
(i.e. shell, chevron, 76...) and don't forget to explain why

There tend to be more Shell stations near me, so that's where I usually get my gas. I've heard that BP is some of the worst gas out there, but I don't know if that has changed since the merger.

i drive up and down california fairly often, which means when i need to gas up at a rest stop, i have a whole lot of stations to choose from.

having said that, i've found that chevron is always the brightest and cleanest, and because of these experiences, i've taken to filling up at chevrons whenever i'm low on gas and i spot one. there also happens to be a really cheap one i know of near where i live.

Mostly 76 (since the one near my area doesn't carry MTBE gas anymore). I also use Chevron.

Arco gas SUCKS. On average, it contains 10% ethanol (more than any other major brand). It will say on some of their pumps. Ethanol will not only decrease your fuel economy, but will lower the effective octane. If you're running a turbocharged car near the limits (ie. 17.5 psi on a 1st gen eclipse turbo, with stock injection & TD05-14B), prepare for some real problems. Melted pistons are $$$. This is rare though, as most vehicles just experience lowered performance.

well according to their recent TV ads that they've been putting up...you'd be getting better fuel economy as well...

btw...I've noticed that a few texaco's around my house have turned to shells and a couple amoco's became BP's...did they get bought out? or just coincidence?

I used to frequent the budget stations, but I've moved away from them since I've had a few incidences of water in my gas. Anyway, I've used Arco the most, and I might start looking into other options once the gas prices go down a bit. I never noticed much of a performance increase when I switched over to Chevron, but my mileage did seem to increase.

The Gas may be Cheap. But the gas is pretty good. Costco when I have the time. 76 if I'm lazy and low on gas.

Amoco merged into BP. Now at BP stations, you will see that they have signs on the pumps saying that they provide "Amoco" gas.

I've been filling up at my local Vons recently. I've used Chevron, Shell & Mobil. Also Costco gas. I tend to stay away from Arco for the same reasons state by Apex. Haven't seen any 76 near me so I don't really go there.

Usually Shell because of their rebate with the old Shell card, but that's gone now. Old habits are still hard to break though. Shell generally has the lowest prices in my area too. I'll get Chevron if there's no Shell around.

I mainly go to Shell. Cheapest and closest for me.

Since my shell mastercard from chase turned into the freeedom plan and the Citi shell never came despite many efforts I got the AAA card wich gives you 5% off any gas (any station) you get from paying at the pump. Would be great if they gave 1% off everything else but they dont....

Chevron. Prices are starting to go down. $2.23 for premium. Although, I am tempted to go to the Shell station that has premium for $2.13

I used to be a die hard chevron lover. Now I use shell. For some reason the premium is cheaper at shell (compared to other gas stations) while their regular is more expensive. thanks for the tip DP. I'll get that card unless Chevron can make me a better offer.

How many other people have used or even heard of Marathon Gas? The reason I ask is because they are headquartered in my home-town in Ohio and I thought that it was just a local thing... with DarkFury being in Indy, I can see why he has heard of Marathon. Anyone else?

My Chase card is now called Chase Freedom card and it offers 5% on all gas purchase and 1% on everything else.

Well I just kept my Chase Mastercard after it became Chase Freedom Mastercard which gives me 5% back at ANY gas station now and the same 1% for other purchases. There's no Marathon gas in Southern California.

I tried getting the Citi Shell card too but they were a pain and sent me letters and called me asking me to confirm this and that so I said nevermind.

Looks like the Freedom card is gone and replaced by the Perfect card that still gives you 3% on gas.

My freedom card had 3% gas rebate but for the first 6 months it was either 5 or 6%.

I like shell, and it's only a bit more expensive than Arco so, hey there you go.
