Ducati has some serious style competition now. Honda is also in the running with their CBR600RR and CBR1000RR both with underseat exhausts. Man!

Ducati's new 999R puts it up at 139hp and 425 wet weight.

I wonder how that compares with the new R1's 180hp, 379lb dry.

The 2004 R1's new under the seat dual:

That's one big exhaust. I wonder how loud it is.

yeah those harleys are nice if you want a bike that everyone else has and that are being made at a rate of 750 per day at the penn. plant and 350 per day at the other plant. The exhaust isnt loud either, that is actually a double pipe system...a pipe within a pipe the real exhaust pipe is small the big-ness is just the outer chrome cover.

i lov ethe new R1... they're back a little more like the old 2000 model. Rounder shapes instead of the hard corners on the 02.

i absolutely hate the exhaust. It looks gay. the only hope is that Akropovic will come out with a kick-ass dual Titanium can that completely takes out the gay little wings and plastic crap in the undertail now.

The Hayabusa is pretty sweet too. 100lbs more weight (more than 26% heavier!), marginally less power, and bigger frontal area, but still nice.

man o man. . . I'll take one of each and supersize it please. I still love the look of the ducati over the R1, but if push came to shove. . . either would do.

Arien - 1/4 mi times are extremely rider dependant....

but, supposedly (i believe) the Gixxer 1k has the best 1/4 mi times... i think the R1 is 2nd on the list.

I could be wrong though (i'm only thinking of 1000cc bikes - not sure what the Busa or Kaw 1200 does).

I know my friend on his modified (full pipe, airbox mod, jetted) R1 can pull a 10.2 i think. The 9sec barrier is narrowly evading him.

I've pulled an 11.4 on my 00' R6, and i'm not really that good. I know a novice rider pulled a 11.2 on an '03 R6 (fuel injected) earlier this year when i was at the track...

Well, I had read somewhere the the Busa got a 9.8 or 9.6 quarter mile at 143mph, I was just wondering how the new R1 would fare against that, seeing as it is lighter, etc. I dunno, I want to ride cycles, but my mom is devoutly against it and as long as I'm living under this roof, I'm not even able to get a dirt bike or anything. So it'll all just have to wait untill I move out.

Motorcylist has the 2003 Hayabusa going 9.88@143.88 mph. The 2002 Yamaha R1 is at 10.07@142.13 mph. It will be interesting to see what kind of numbers the 2004 R1 puts out.

problem with that is, that those are corrected times - for altitude, air density, humidity, temperature, and god knows what else.... fact is, with a great rider, you'de be lucky to get a 10.0 out of it. All the "corrections" just tweak the numbers down and down and down.

So essentialy you're looking for flickability and those sorts of things? Style and all that, because at that point most bikes are prety much the same unless you can ride like a mofo?
