I've been meaning to try this for some time now. So what the ultimate drive like? Is it pretty much just an extended test drive? Do you get to drive wherever you want to?

Ultimate Drive is pretty much a test drive you get without the annoying sales guy/girl sitting next to you. You get to go solo or with a few passengers (depending on the car). They do predetermine your route for you. But its a solid 15-20 minute drive in most cases.

Isn't this the same thing that they did a couple of years ago (in SoCal it was at Hollywood Park)? In addition to the test drive, they let you abuse an X5 4.4 around a course with cones and a driving instructor. That was the best part...nothin like driving someone else's car hard enough to get it up on 3 wheels.

Hmmm there are no courses with cones. The test drive is done on surface streets.

So if the course is done on regular streets, how does BMW keep you from going off course?

They track your mileage. They know how many miles the route is. If you go off course, then the mileage will be off.
