Yea, but most people buying SUVs are getting them just for the status... especially the new Hummers.

I guarantee people wouldn't be buying the H2's if they were badged 'GMC' instead. They definitely wouldn't be paying 50K+.

A Willy's is not a Jeep. A Jeep is a derivative of the Willy's, and though they--Jeeps--were much better built in the beginning, they've lost something over the years.

Thanks, It's my brothers jeep. We've gone places in that Jeep that I didn't think were possible in a vehicle of any kind.

Depends on how technical you want to get. There are 'Willys' made by J.N. Willys that are 'Willys' and there are Jeeps that were made by J.N. Willys that are Jeeps.

Most people that refer to a Willys are talking about the MB model that was made for WWII, which was really a 'JEEP MB' manufactured by the Willys Overland company.

I agree they've gone downhill, although the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is turning a lot of heads that they may be getting back towards some of the traditional ideas.

He went to Moab last year with some friends, but he didn't take his jeep because it was being worked on. Not sure if he'll go back or not.

HAHAHAHA!!!
He thought he was soooo cool off roading in broad daylight with his auxillary lights on too! Looks like that was the first (and last time) that Hummer saw dirt.

I don't know much about offroading, but watching that video got me wondering...4wd offroading vehicles have locking differentials, and that is so that when you lock the differential all of your wheels must turn at the same rate, right? Was this guys' problem that he didn't have the diff locked, and he gunned it? The free tire spins, hits the ground and stops instantly, and something breaks?

Some 4x4s have something called a limited-slip differential, so one tire can still spin while the other is motionless. It is hard to tell exactly what happened in this video, but from the looks of it--to me anyway--all that happened is that when the driver-side front wheel did finally get traction and start moving forward, the passenger-side front tire lost some traction, spun the rock around, and it jammed into the interior side-wall snapping the tie-rod. I could be wrong though.

IMO, the reason H2s make such horrible offroading vehicles is due to their weight. A JEEP, bbrian , is light enough that it would have just bounced over those rocks rather than breaking an axle/tie-rod.

Yeah I don't think a diff lock would've helped the dumbass, he gunned it right into the rock and SNAP broken rod huhray!.

He either has to replace the tie rod or call a tow truck.

I believe that most people (who are serious offroaders)carry a trail repair kit for this kind of break down. I know we do. We went up last weekend and had a spare axle with us, in case we had problems with our new one.

Heh, that's the other thing, though. Jeeps are way easier to work on.
