Help with toyota service bulletin

I have a 98 avalon with this problem, A/C and heat stop working intermittently. Sucks to be in this car in the wintertime!!!!! Especially driving to work early AM with no heat....

Anyway, I've been reading, and it seems to cost around $700 to fix. I can't afford that and need some options. Our family has a long, good history with toyota MC and lexus' so we usually talk our way out of stuff at the dealership. does toyota ever help pay for stuff like this?

If it's a recall, I'd think that it would be on Toyota's bill.

*edit* Just noticed that it wasn't a recall - sorry.

however, if it's a known defect, they will be more likely to work with you on giving you a break to fix it.

I don't think they'll charge you anything.

I took my Toyota in for a TSB relating to squealing in one of the belts in my car. I didn't get charged anything for the fix and I didn't even have to mention anything about a TSB. Whether the dealer charges you for the fix is up to the dealer... I think.

The items on the AllData page appear to just be TSB's. A TSB is just a notice to service shops of common problems for that particular car, not neccesarily a defect or a recall.

What doesn't work exactly? Is it still blowing air, but it isn't warm or does it quit blowing air?

Here's the only recall I could find on that car and it can affect the AC:

If it is out of warranty then the TSB does not have to be fixed for free. If it was a recall it would still have to be fixed for free. You can try and get it fixed for free by calling Toyota, talking to your toyota service manager, or by talking to your area toyota representative. Your area toyota representative is someone that your dealership reports to.

I hope you can get this problem rectified for free.

Man, i really wish that was the recall. Its not though, I have the factory security system. It is built in to the dash.

What acutally happens is, the Digital thermometer goes out first, then the entire climate control system just stops. THe lights on the climate buttons stay on, but the fan stops entirely. see this:
http://www.toyotaworld.com/bbs/messages/9830.html

That's exactly my problem, i just am hoping to dodge that $600-$700....
