Renting cool cars for a night

Is there any way to do this? Say rent a Mustang GT or something cool for one night, say to drive to prom or something? Just wondering.

Enjoy, but expect to pay!

Can get a Bently Azure for the low, low price of $2800/day! Even a Lamborghini Diablo for the same price!

Highly doubt you can rent anything half decent if you are under 25 anyway.
Dodge viper for 499 a day. 100 mile limit. SICK!

Of course you can. Money talks. There are couple of places by LAX and one or two in Beverly Hills that will rent you pretty much anything, but I'm pretty sure you have to be 25. I've driven a rented Ferrari F355 Spyder, Corvette, and Boxster before. I didn't rent them because I don't have that kind of money to toss around. Your parents will pretty much have to rent the car for you. You can drive it without the place knowing so you have to drive REALLY carefully. The place I went to before had a smashed Viper as a result of someone letting their kid drive the car. They usually charge a lot for mileage too.

I thought the H2s and the Corvettes weren't part of the GM 24 hour test drive. What dealership is going to let a high schooler take an H2 or a Corvette anyways?

Yes because the Prowler costs more initially.

Which is it? Do you want to rent something cool or do you want to rent a Mustang GT?

If I was going to rent something just for "status" or as a showpiece, I'd try to rent an exotic, not something that everyone else is already driving. Lots of places rent exotics (Porsche, Ferrari, Hummer), but expect to pay big buck$$$.

(Of course, you could always be like those guys who rented a Neon, put nitrous on it and abused it on the racetrack for a weekend before returning it to stock and bringing it back to the rental place... )

I think the corvette and the hummer are excluded from the 24 hr test drive. Plus there's a ****load of red tape and stuff.

Just get a limo if you are going to the prom. It's more social anyways, you can fit more people in it and you don't have to drive. Renting a mustang isn't really worth it.

Yeah we tried the limo thing, it sucked. A bunch of people making out and making me and my SO realllllly uncomfortable, especially when the making out turned into sexual acts that were all covered up and crap. Now if it were an open all and out orgy I'd be happy. But, as it stood it was just weird. I mean, we stopped at a starbucks so most of us could get some coffee, and I got back in the limo and it was rank. Smelt like a tuna slaughterhouse. *shudder*

Sounds like you need new friends. Or at least friends who know when they should get a room.

pretty much, they took a suburban made it a little smaller, and then designed the sheet metal to look different.

Good luck finding a rental company to rent to a kid going to prom. The odds of an accident on prom night go up astronomically, especially if you're driving an unfamiliar powerful vehicle.

"So, you're going to prom... most likely be alcohol involved... your girl dressed so hot you can't take your eyes off of her... the desire to impress your friends is off the scale...

No problem kid! Here's the keys!"

I'm 20, but my parents would be renting it anyways. Like I haven't thought this out.

Just cuz your parents rent it doesn't mean you can drive. The are disclaimers that state who can and cannot operate the vehicle. Might wanna think it thru just a bit more.

exactly. you usually have to be 25 to drive a rental car. sometimes they make you give all the names of people who will be driving the vehicle. it ain't as easy as you might think.

You're SUPPOSED to be 25 to drive most rental cars. Doesn't mean you physically CAN'T. It's not like they have some DNA recognition device in the car. I know of plenty of people (myself included) who have driven rental cars before they turned 25 when they weren't SUPPOSED to. I drove a freakin Ferrari! I knew someone who's parents rented him a SLK for prom. Now I don't think it's the best idea to be doing this because if there is an accident, things will get hairy. It really depends on how trusted the under-25 yr old can be.

I think "things will get hairy" is a bit of an understatement.
Though AC, I was thinking my sister has a brand new black Mustang GT. Seeing as I might end up going to prom as well we might be able to carpool in it. Hey, will this be your 3rd prom? LOL I was hoping only to have one too. Did you feel like you were baby sitting last year? I feel a little weird being around the kiddies as well.

When you're 21, you can get something through your company (if you're working, and you do a LOT of arm-twisting), key word is "can"

actually, when i was traveling and renting cars through work, there were no problems renting cars. if it's a corporate account, there usually isn't an age limit (well, probably 18 or 21, but if you're working for a corporation....)

That's because the company will claim responsibility for it. Not you.
