Selling a car...need some advice

I'm selling my sister Jetta and found a buyer.
Now the question is this, is there a way to avoid the sales tax?
I don't think I can transfer it as a gift and I think selling it for a $1 is kind of fishy. Now I know its not my problem since its the buyers that are paying the tax, BUT the folks are nice and I want to see if I can help them out without having to lower my asking price.

Thanks for your time.

well you could always write on the title a lower (yet reasonable) price. In maryland...even if you sell it for $1, if it's not family, they'll charge you tax for the blue book value.

i think you have to do it within 10-15% of the bluebook value for it to be charged the normal rate.
