I was researching Carputers a few months ago, and found this page on that forum... it's a really nice and elegant mod

$300 - touchscreen
$X - PC (use an old one for free, add hard drive)

not an extremely expensive mod, but any specialty shop would charge at least $1500 for a carputer

i think he should have added an all in wonder card to that setup, live tv would have made that setup complete. unless he wanted satelite

what a coincidence, i'm two steps away from building one myself. I got the display two months ago (lilliput VGA 7inch TS). Just gotta work out the kinks with my car before it goes in.

Have you ever tried to hook up an old PC to your cars power system? Plus then you have a bulky box in the trunk. If you are going to do that you should just skip the LCD and put a 17" screen mounted to the dash.

I think getting one of the mini-pc's is a much better way to go IMO.

They make ATX DC-DC power supplies that you can put in an old desktop if you've got a tight budget. The only tradeoff is space, and when you drive a Caravan it's not that big of a deal

I'd get a mini-ITX designed for DC operation for a nice job.
