I used to spin them on purpose, and try to lose control. But that trend stopped last week, after I lost control of my own car on the freeway.

When I was out in vegas the week before last Avis people gave me a free upgrade to a Mustang Convert since we work for the same company. I had fun with that thing.

I haven't done anything crazy to any rental car yet but I know plenty of pple who do. I just don't take care of it as much as I take care of my car.

We had a lincoln ls v8 a couple years ago when I went to Palm Springs....we took that thing into the desert and brought it through the gears quite a few times.

I work for a dealership and we rent and lease cars. I can personally vouch for inspecting every vehicle every 3000 miles while it’s getting its regular service, it's inspected inside and out and any wrongdoing is corrected. Each vehicle has a computerized damage report attached to them and the customer is required to view the vehicle before leaving the lot, I can tell you we had some disappointed customers this past year, they had some unexpected out of pocket expenses. They also think just because they are in a rental or lease vehicle they can illegally park or go through automated tolls, WRONG... when the ticket is sent here they get sent back to the city or town where the violation occurred with the appropriate paper work, from there the renter becomes responsible and if they try and refuse payment there license is suspended.

I guess I have too much of a conscience.

It's not my car, so I don't abuse it.

The inspections I'm talking about has nothing to do with the resale but everything to do with the re-renting, safety and proper functionality of the vehicle.

hmmm..

actually...

As it happens, i rented a car last month when I was on vacation, and got upgraded to a Dodge Durango because thats all they had left. So.. while I was near the beach (not on the beach), we went off roading and as it turns out, it was not a 4x4.

So, we had to get towed out. But there was no tow hitch either. Ended up pulling out using the striker on the tail gate.

It got bent a bit, but I bought a new piece from the dodge dealer and it was all good.

Seems quite funny now that I look back at it, but when the car was deep in the sand..

Ah the fun with rental cars. The only time I like to do neutral dropouts... And does anyone remember that web site about the guys in AZ who rented the Dodge Neon and fitted it with NOS? Now that sounded like fun.

But to answer the question: I do ride harder on the rentals. I think part of it is I usually get the cheap ones so the only way to keep up with traffic is to lay into it pretty hard.

It's called Damage Waiver. So if you jack up the car you walk away no fuss no muss. Yeah it costs some extra $$. But if the car gets damaged in anyway you aren't liable for it.

So technically (working for Enterprise Rent A Car) you could "sledgehammer" or "put a brick" through the windshield and return the car and walk away. They'd be pissed but dub protects ya!

Or you can be like me, and get a credit card that includes free damage waiver and travel insurance.
