Go to court and gamble he doesn't show. If he does you might not be able to take traffic school. I just got one for no seat belt and ima fight it.

suck up ... just say you're sorry and you won't let it happen again. you'll have to pay the fine no matter what. but since it's your first offense, the judge may let it go and say don't do it again. how old are you? the younger you are (assuming you're over 16 ), the easier it would be to get let off i think.

If the judge doesn't let you off, make sure to ask if you can go to traffic school.

Take the class online.

doesn't matter, you WILL pay the ticket. that shouldn't be your focus. insurance is your focus who cares if you pay a $100 ticket. if your insurance goes up $10-$20 a month, in a year that's a $120-$240 ticket. never say you're not gonna pay. say you're sorry and you won't let it happen again. say you were just in a good mood and didn't realize your speed until you were being pulled over.

it worked for me and everyone else who got a ticket. well, besides my girl cause all she did was complain to me and figured it wasn't worth it to get rid of points.

Well, here are your options:

1. Contest the ticket. You'll win if you have a good defense(eg valid loophole) or the cop doesn't show. If you lose, you'll pay the full amount and can't goto traffic school.

2. Pay the fine and you can probably ask for traffic school.

3. Go to you arraignment and ask the judge for a reduction of fine. Plea, no contest. This is what I recommend. Seeing that it is your first ticket, most judges will either allow a slight reduction if you tell them it is your first time and you are sorry. Either that or you can ask for community service instead of paying. You won't get off scott free though. You can also ask for traffic school so your insurance doesn't go up.

You only fight when you have a good chance to win or you can't go traffic school. Twenty miles over the speed limit will come with a huge fine.

If it was CHP you're looking at about $300 and the cost of traffic school if you so choose. Local cops vary. LA and OC sherrifs usually don't go past $130 for most fines.

CHP fines are set up in a way so that combined with the mandatory court fees they always end up near or exactly $300. Most of the times they cost $276+24(court fee)=$300

speaking of which, does anyone know why the minimum fine for a carpool lane violation is $271? It just seems like such a random number, any reason for it? I also read its getting bumped up to 340 or something like that.

Herez a tip, go to court . . . show up on time. If the officer is even 5 seconds late, get up and ask the judge to dismiss the case since the officer didnt show up.

Assuming the officer does show up, plead NO CONTEST. Then respectfully request NO Adjudication. Its worked for a friend of mine in the past ;-) . . .personally, i've never tried it . . .but will if I have to in the future.

Lemme know how it goes. And dont hang me if they put u in jail for impersonating a lawyer ;-).

-desiSurfer
PS: Pass on the tip to anyone who might need it should it work.

well in california if you want to go to court to contest it, you have to go twice. First time to plead guilty or not guilty, second time the case will be heard.

Since you have traffic school eligable, i would plead no contest and do that(BTW, i just got a ticket for rolling stop )

if you wanna fight it, best way in california is first fight the ticket using TRIAL BY WRITTEN DECLARATION. You will fill out a form declaring why you are innocent, and the cop has to file that paperwork. If he doesn;t you are automatically found not guilty. If he does and you are found guilty, you can then protest the ruling and ask for a trial before a judge. There, like usual if the cop doesn;t show, you will win. However you take that risk

The advantage with TRIAL BY WRITTEN DECLARATION is that the cop does not get paid overtime for doing this. But when a cop needs to go to court he get paid overtime to do it.
