I saw this at the LA Auto Show. I was drooling and the hood wasn't even open. The front brakes have two calipers on each side. Sick!

nice strut bar.

saw the same car at LA Auto show.

I guess that vent on the hood does serve a purpose.

I'll take a wagon any day.

400+ hp (close to 500) from a boosted 5 cylinder. Check out the link. It's probably going to be expensive, but leaving 'Vettes in the dust with a Volvo would be priceless. Just curious as to what you think is rice on there. I don't see a single sticker or gaudy spoiler on that car. The only thing that seems out of place at first is that hood vent, but it's fully functional for the open element air box. As for the brakes, you can never have too much stopping power as long as your pocket book allows for it IMO. Those are big 19" HRE wheels too so a brake upgrade is smart and necessary.

It wont smoke the new Vette. Turbo 5 will have some lag before it opens up. Four door sedan must weigh a bit.
It probably rides like crap.

Looks like a Lexus IS racer. Rice is as rice does. If the shoe fits....

I actually like the paint job. Coulda used a different color. Played out silver or drk grey would of been nice. Functional scoop is nice... what no ram air?

"ram" air isnt really functional utill you get well into the triple digit speeds. About the only thing it REALLY makes a difference on is motorcycles... and were only talking maybe 3 - 5hp on top.

car looks nice. I'de drive it.

It won't beat a Z06, but I'd give it a chance against a stock C5. I wouldn't be suprised if this thing posted better slalom numbers than a base C5. Haven't driven a C6 yet. What performance car doesn't compromise ride quality for handling? The body is no doubt heavier than most sports cars because it's a Volvo, but a boosted 5 cylinder motor is going to be lighter than a V8 even though it's not enough to compensate for the rest of the heavy luxury/safety goodies.

So just because it's not a typical sports car (i.e., low slung 2-door coupe) and it has been tuned for performance then it's rice? Interesting line of thought.

The paint was probably chosen to grab eyes and grab eyes it does. It is a show car. I agree that a low key black or silver would be more suitable for every day use.

A chance to run faster is a whole lot different than smoking it.
For this thing to hang in the corners the ride would have be riduculousy bad. Corvette rides nice and handles well.

In L.A. this is a typical "sports sedan." I've seen everything from lowered, fixed up, turbo'd honda accords and maximas to pontiacs like that car.

Euro and Asian racing styles used to be very different. The lines have blurred since so many Asian cars are popular in Europe now and vice versa. Look the rims. Are they euro style rims? They are modled after various J rims IMO.

Price.... I'm sure I can get a Vette for less than that car. In fact if you want something like that car you'd be better off with the most complete package available, the M3.

I don't doubt that it could SMOKE many C4s which would be enough to put some muscle heads in their place. I personally didn't find the C5 Corvette to have that nice of a ride. The C4 was worse. It might handle better with less compensation for ride quality than that Volvo as it doesn't have as much weight and as hight of a center of gravity to compensate for, but just being a 'Vette makes it lose out on the stealth factor alone.

I live in LA as well and I have seen plenty of tuned Accords (I have a semi-tuned Accord myself) and Maximas, but no Pontiacs. Most importantly, I've never seen a tuned Volvo.

So are we basically coming down to the idea that you don't like the Japanese tuning style? What's so wrong about the blending of the syles? European and Japanese tuning styles have both focused on cleaner lines, lowered/aggressive stances, and making lots of power out of small engines. Those wheels actually remind me of the old TSW wheels people used to put on BMWs in the '90s. The closest Japanese wheel that resembles those would be Work Meister wheels that are influenced by German wheels as implied by the name.

Sure you could get a 'Vette for less money, but what's so special about a fast 'Vette? Same for the M3. Drop some of the show car body enhancements on this Volvo and you've got an awesome sleeper. If what you don't like is the import tuning scene then just say so instead of calling this Volvo rice, because rice is generally referred to when talking about a car modified with little or no taste. I am always open to giving props to anyone who enhances the performance of a car, especially one that people least expect. If hot rodding an unsuspecting platform is rice than the creation of American muscle cars (dropping big motors into heavy boxy sedans and adding obnoxious scoops, gaudy graphics, and retina burning paint jobs) would be the ultimate example of rice.

Even if people were to think all that stuff were for show there's the exhaust and sound of the motor. Whats that series car come with stock, 240 hp or so? The rims and obviously aftermarket brakes would kind of tell people something. Thats an expensive "sleeper." You'd get all the Maximas and stock Z's and Corvettes (at the 1st light not at the 2nd), but I'd rather drive an M3 or Nos a vette for that money.
I had 2 ricers, an Eclipse turbo and a civic. Ricer doesn't bother me. If you were more confident of your hobby you wouldn't care if it was summed up in one word. RICE! I might buy a bike this summer I'll refer to it as a rice burning ricerocket. Got|Rice?
You like that car, I like some things about that car. You think its Euro nice and I think it s a little rice.
Oh and I don't care for a lot of trends. I hate body kits and wings and stuff. I hate any shade of orange paint unles its on a datsun. I didn't like a lot of the Euro junk and overated euro cars. I'd take a g35 coupe and turbo it, etc. over that volvo.
Still we have no price for that car. I'd imagine its expensive to double the power output of that motor. What if you could get if 50k sans the body kit? You'd get that over an M3?

No I wouldn't take this Volvo over the M3 if they cost the same. I would get a WRX or a STi and mod the heck out of it for less.

I think the rims and the big brake package won't make production. It's attention grabbing on a show car, but 18" wheels and 13" rotors with a single caliper 6 pison set-up would be more realistic. I would never want a juiced 'Vette. It's just such a dead giveaway. I dig fast sedans because of their sleeper look and practicality. That's why my next car will be the STi (probably sans rear spoiler).

I am confident in my hobby, but I also know that summing it all up as rice doesn't do it justice. I do jokingly refer to my car as a rice rocket every now and then, but I don't purposely use the term rice to degrade it. Much like how some black people use the "n" word with each other. It's all about context.

I don't like wings or kits either. The only exterior enhancement I have on my Accord is a factory spoiler. I would take a boosted G35 coupe over the Volvo too, but I wouldn't mind it for a second car. Call me stupid, but for $50K, I think I would get that over a M3 because I see M3s on a daily basis. It has the practicality of a four door, the safety of a Volvo, the butt-kicking ability of a M3, and the stealthness of....a Volvo! Now if the price hit M5 territory, then I would DEFINETLY pass and go for the M5.
