Car Warranty

Hi all, just out of curiosity:
Anyone of you ever gotten screwed, or at least had the car dealership try to charge you for repairs even though your car was still under warranty?

My girlfriend's bimmer is in the shop (of course) and the problem is with the two front windows' regulators and the sun/moonroof "cartridge"...whatever that means. The extended warranty is still good but I have a feeling that they will state it's not covered.

Anyone have any experience with this sort of repair problem? Suggestions? Thanks.

Damn, should have gotten that Buick.

Is the extended warrenty powertrain only? If so, you're SOL. If not, then there's no way they can charge you unless your past time is beating it with a baseball bat. You have everything in writing. Just look up in the extendended brochure the regulators and presto.

Thanks Infinite.
It's a full warranty. Bumper to bumper. Have all the paperwork too. The brochure says that the window/roof motors are covered. I don't know much bout cars, but intuitively, doesn't the term "motor" cover the "regulator"??

Did you buy it new or is it a CPO. If its the later, then there are extra charges and it doesnt necessarily cover the same things as the original warranty. Otherwise, if its the original warranty, it should probably be covered.

What does CPO mean?
I bought it new, and paid extra for the extended warranty. The car is a 2001 model, so the original warranty that came with the new car should still be in effect. Even if the original isn't, the extended warranty doesn't expire until 2007. And it is way under the mileage cap of 100,000.

I guess my questions are:
1) Is this "wear and tear"? - I can understand if we're talking about brakes and such. But gimme a break, it's the windows for pete's sake...and

2) Can they say something like "ok, the roof motor is covered as stated in the brochure, but it is the 'cartridge' that needs work for which we have to charge you." - I'm assuming other components other than a motor is required for a window/roof to function, but can they cover one part (the motor) and not another essentially connected component (cartridge/regulator)??

BTW, if you own a BMW and live in the LA area, I would not recommend bringing your car to a certain dealership in the Alhambra area for service...

Good questions. No it's not wear and tear and if it's bumper to bumper, you're covered as long as it's not something that needs regular maintenance.

Ahh, ok. Yeh it wasn't a pre-owned car.
Anyway, just spoke with the service rep, said that they needed an adjuster to come out to verify the needed repairs...
I'll post any developments in case someone else runs into a situation like this in the future.
Thanks everyone for your help/feedback.

I'm not sure exactly what DarkFury is talking about in terms of having the insurance company pay for repairs in this situation, especially when there is no accident involved here.

Question

There was a time that I was a Service Manager for Subaru for a couple of years.
The window regulaters and motors are covered under the original factory warranty, and they are covered under the extended warranty also.
The only thing you should have to pay is the deductable.
Some extended warranties have a $100 deductable and some are different.
That should be all you will have fo dig up.

Thanks BobyJo. I'll keep that in mind.
The service rep just said that the windows are entirely covered. They are still waiting on the adjuster to verify the repairs for the roof. But I suppose they need the adjuster cuz the roof entails more work (tearing out the headliner and such).

Now since they are covering repairs for the windows, shouldn't the roof be covered as well since the sunroof is essentially just another window??

case resolved. here's what happened for any of you that might encounter a similar situation in the future:

all repairs to window regulators and roof are covered! (i'm still in shock.)

service rep did say that we don't have to pay anything only because the ORIGINAL WARRANTY that came with the new car is still in effect. if that had expired, and i was relying on the extended warranty, then i would be SOL. repairs to the moon roof tracks and 'cartridge'(still don't know what that is) alone would have been upwards of $1000. can you believe that? and that doesn't even count towards work on the motor! nuts.

moral of the story:
don't buy a BMW (seriously).
ask specific questions about the coverage of extended warranties before paying the extra bucks. (they cover one specific part but not a critically connected component of the whole item in question)

anyway, thank you to everyone for your feedback.
conversely, i hope my specific predicament can help someone else in the future.
