Car pricing in same area, but different dealers...
I was wondering...how much do they vary? , or are they all about the same? I was looking at the Honda dealership, there are a bunch within a few miles. Does it apply for used cars too? I would obviously have to spend a whole day driving around and looking.
How much do I hate car shopping? Considering this my first expereince, it sucks. Yes, I look young, i'm 26. I step foot on the lot, i'm sure they were thinking, "where's your parents?" So I walk around for a bit and no one so much as sneezes at me. I'm looking around at the cars and finally after about 10 min a guy yells at me from about 200 feet away, "Can I help you?" I said I was looking and of course he imediately put the pressure on me to buy "today". I told him not today, maybe by the end of the month. He told me to look for him if i had any questions. I did, I asked him for some options, he says "yes we have one, it's over there" and points. I looked at him like he was crazy and he looked at his watch and said I guess I can take you over there so we go over there and there isn't one there. He then again trys to sell me one "today" fully loaded. If I could I would, but I couldn't. UGH! Hopefully it gets better.

It really depends on the dealership. In looking in to the CLK, there has been a variance of $4000 between dealers. My suggestion to you is contact all the internet managers and have them give you their best deal and use that as ammo for negotiating.

Keyes dealerships are evil. The managers are a**holes and their salespeople don't like answering questions. I would recommend avoiding them at all costs, but that's just my opinion. Check out Kolbe Honda in Reseda. I helped my cousin buy a new Accord two weekends ago from Kolbe. People there were very friendly and they are willing to negotiate. As Brain suggested, definitely do a lot of research from the internet first. Once you've gotten some decent quotes, then start playing the dealerships off each other via phone. Get them to match one another. Once you've gotten to your target price, then I would go to that dealership and get the gears rolling. Car shopping isn't that bad with the internet at your disposal. It's so easy obtaining quotes that it saves you a lot of time and hassle driving to each and every dealership within a 50 mile radius. Last edited by ray : 03-22-2004 at 11:17 AM. |

and the ONLY place you need is www.edmunds.com. it's seriously the best place to find out exactly what you need to pay to get the car. especially a new one. when you go in to the dealer, you will know how much the dealer paid for it, what incentives are available, what their holdback is, and what other people are paying. when you go in, take a folder with information that you've printed out. invoice, incentives, financing options. that sure you're nobody to **** with, and intimidates them a bit.

I second edmunds. I used that as a great tool when buying my new Accord. The prices vary by dealers, but the invoice is pretty much the same and they're usually more than willing to price match and match financing as well.
Even if you don't buy through an internet manager, just letting them know that you know what they're paying and what prices other dealers are offering you is more than enough ammo to get a good deal. It helped for someone who asked me to get him a good price after I told him I got a pretty good deal.

Speaking of Edmunds, you MUST read this article before you do any more shopping. Props to whoever posted it before... can't remember who it was.

You can also use the pricing from www.carsdirect.com and start negotiate from there.

I definitely use both (edmunds and cars direct) to get an idea about how much a car costs. If I can get the dealer to offer the car less than what carsdirect can offer it, then I'm in the right ballpark. They treat it as a war, you should realize it and treat it the same way!
