ebay...scams...are cool!!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...703494261&rd=1

read it carefully, you would think by the number of bids that it is for the actual unit, about 6 lines down you see "This is an auction for a website to get this DVD player for as low as $60. This site is not a scam, I've used it and it works great!" retard, hes got 7 of these listed too, and people are falling for it.

anyways just figured i would show you all

If the website actually worked and let you get that system for $60, it'd be a decent deal IMO. But yeah, I'd be very surprised if that were the case. Not just because I can't fathom how such a purchasing system would work, but because I think by definition, the phrase "as low as," basically makes whatever comes after it meaningless.

That's like those scams that say "send me $5 and I'll teach you to make hundreds in your free time from home!" Yeah, start asking fools for $5 each and it adds up.

Me too, I'm looking for a cell phone right now and you see a lot of listings that sell sites to purchase $900 phones for "as low as" $50. It's a good thing I read the complete listing, but even then, when it's typed like that it's pretty hard to see.

Exactly--notice mostly all of the bidders are zero feedback? He's not getting a nickel from the winning bidder...

I noticed that he has two recent negative feedback comments - both which are for items identical to the one he's trying to sell now. That being the case, I'm surprised this one got so many bids.

i would assume stuff like this would be illegal on ebay. i mean, if they're selling a link, fine. but trying to hide that fact is just wrong. ebay should make these auctions have the title say "Auction for Link only" or something like that... these ppl need to be castrated with bricks.

There's a ton of those auctions on ebay. I actually saw the site that they link you to after you win the auction. Some guy on ebay put it up for free. Basically it's a pyramid scheme...you have to get other people to put money into the pyramid before you get your "prize"...your choice of a DVD player.

There are tons of "info" only auctions on EBAY for all sorts of expensive stuff. Almost always they just point you towards websites that run "auction" like sales.. What I have seen is that these sites look awfully similar to a pyramid scheme.
For example,
Pioneer AVIC-N1 is the newest version of the in-dash DVD player (but also has GPS built in). It normally retails for 1999.99 I recently bought one for $1700, it is an awesome unit!!! I found one of these sites that said you could get it for $100. Here's the catch. You pay $10 to bid a "unique" price closest to the recommended sale price of $100. You can bid as many times as you want, but each time costs you $10. When they have reached a predetermined total (each item has a different # of required bids) of 500 bids, the person who has a bid that is a unique amount (basically the only bid in that amount) wins the auction & can purchase the item for the bided amount. Say 200 people bid 101.01, 200 people bid 100.10, 98 people bid 100.11, 1 person has bid 121.50, & you bid 100.01 In this scenario, I would have been the one to win, closest unique bid of $100.01 If you actually win that is great because it only costs me $100.01 + $10 = $110.01 for a unit that retails for $2000.
1 in 500 chance. I forgot what they did when there was not one unique bid; I think they roll it over into another auction just for those people.

Basically, they make: $10 per bid, 500 bids = $5000 from bid income
unit retails for $2000 (if they have wholesale access they can get the unit for around $1450) their profit is $3000 + the unique bid amount.

Basically you can sell anything, just make sure you require the correct amount of bids.

Surprisingly, there are tons of people bidding on these types of auctions, probably because it only costs $10, so they figure what the hell.

Whenever shopping, ALWAYS read, read, read........

Why would ebay stop it?

Like you said. Technically they are disclosing everything that they need to. they are selling a link to a way to possibly get a cheap item. Its totally shady and crappy for the buyer that goes in. But look at it from ebay's point of view. We make hundreds of thousands of dollars from auctions that literally sell nothing. thus these auctions will always keep coming back up and making us more money. So one person out of 100 gets mad enough to never come back to ebay. not a big loss. But if we close down every shady auction, we lost probably 10% of our revenues. Hmm so do i want one unhappy email a month? Or one small unemployment check?

I know its wrong and those people ought to get whats coming to them... Like my gto at about 65 mph... but from a business point of view, ebay loves these things and will probably do very little to curtail them.
