Ford Hybrid.

disappointing power ratings when they originally promised 200hp/v6 ratings. price isn't TOO bad....if it's equiped like the limited, it's about a 2k surcharge for the extra motor. |

The Ford is only going to have 1 gas and 1 electric? That sucks. Wait for the Toyota and Lexus then. 1 Gas and 2 Electrics in those. |

I think what they were saying is that between the electric motor and the 130 something HP gasoline motor, it would perform LIKE the regular V6 motor that is in the traditional Escape. I would be interested to see a head to head between the two and see how it performs. |

I started watching the escape hybrid when they announced it over 2 years ago. It was originally going to come out at the beginning of 2003, then mid 2003, then end 2003...
It looks like they are finally set for the summer of this year for LIMITED production and then more significant production next year. It will probably be a good 1st generation hybrid for ford, but the technology will probably be behind where Toyota is when it comes out with their Highlander Hybrid eary next year since Ford basically licensed Toyota's technology a few years ago, reverse engineered it, made minor alterations and now it's Fords 'new' technology. In the meantime, Toyota has improved their technology which leaves Ford a generation back. It will probably be a good car still, but if you run the math it'll take something like 7-9 years of driving to make up the extra $2-3K in cost vs. buying the non-hybrid version. |

actually reading the description in the webpage, it seems like it's more than just 1...but they don't specify how many. my bad. Quote:
yeah. exactly. and the v6 = 200 hp, while they're saying the hybrid is only giving 155. |

I wouldn't buy that.
I actually wait for the Accord V6 hybrid since I don't really need a SUV. BTW it won't take 7-9 years to offset the $2K extra since gas price will stay at over $2/gallon. |

all depends on how many miles you drive/how many times u need to fill up. also, with city driving, since hybrids really show their MPG with city driving, it could be even faster.... my SUV = 10-12 mpg in city. ->fill up ~14gallons once a week this is supposed to average 36 mpg (city &highway). http://www.fordvehicles.com/escapehy...savings&bhcp=1 i'd be even at 2k in about 3 years and a couple months. and I would like to hope that I keep my car over 3 years.... but still that 155hp pisses me off. if it was closer to 200, I'd really consider it. |

Wait for the Camry or the Accord or even the Toyota Highlander hybrids. Power of a V8 for the Lexus and Toyota models. I don't recall what Honda's power output is. |

With gas price approaching $3 and 12K to 15K annual mileage, hybrid is a pretty good deal. |

I'm considering getting the Camry hybrid when it's released. I can sell my Camry to my parents since they want to buy a car for when they visit me and the relatives. |

The Escape is a bit underwhelming. My boss was thinking about getting one until he saw the towing capacity, which is barely enough to tow a 12' aluminum boat, let alone a nice one like my brothers which is 4k lb.

I'm all for the hybrids, but I'm still not the least bit interested in an SUV. Still, I'm glad they're making them, for those who aren't repulsed by them.
