Arrow What Amp Should I get?

So my super old Punch 60 finally blew out (thanks to some crappy wiring from a shop here in CO), so I need to get a new amp. I'll do the wiring myself this time! That Punch 60 was a classic.

I have 2 10in Kicker Solo-Barics in a vented box, set up to 2 ohm. Whats good and reasonably priced? I know I would need a good RMS rating, but beyond that ???

If you have the SoloBaric L7's (linky), there are a lot of options.

How much of the available 600W x 2 RMS power ratings do you want to use? Or go with less on a budget?

Here's a list to get you started - pick out a price range

Well... here's the amp that I have in my T-Bird pushin' 2 Dual Voice Coil Orion XTR 15s... (basically, I'm running it at 1 Ohm mono... using all four 4 Ohm voice coils... pushin' close to 800 - 1000 watts of power in that configuration. ) With a 2 Ohm load, you should be able to get around 350 - 400 watts out of it.

Kenwood KAC-8101D
http://www.kenwoodusa.com/product/pr...productId=2481

Basically the MSRP is $350... however I bought mine for $249. If you are interested in one, I can hook you up with the guy who does all my car audio installs... you'd just have to add the shipping price to it.

Thanks DF. That amp looks like it should work well. I was in BB and CC today and they where wanting around 200 - 300 for the Kenwood 800watter! Looks like I can pick one of your Kenwood KAC-8101D's up online for about 170 plus shipping (Etronics).

http://gotapex.pricegrabber.com/sear...arch=KAC-8101D

Have you ever had it overheat or anything like that DF?

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Can anyone explain why anyone desires 800 watts of power in a cubicle about the size of a small bathroom?

I think pricegrabber just doesn't know what its talking about. When you go to the actual retailers site, it says mono.

Cool... just makin' sure you were lookin' at the right product.

BTW... 2 10" subs in a TAHOE... C'mon dude, you can hit harder than that.

10's are for vehicles with LIMITED space... (unless you had 4 of them. )

Heh, heres my speakers and box:

The dang thing must weigh at least 100lbs. Hits to hard for me already! (that is when I had a working amp.)

How does that fit in the back -- does it drop down anywhere, or just sits in the trunk space?

For the SUV's like the Tahoe, you need at least two 12" but two 15" would have been nice.

Personally, if I had had a "Tahoe" or any other large SUV, I'd have 2 15's in a sealed box... and would've taken up approximately the same amount of airspace that you have with those 2 10s... and would hit probably 2x - 3x harder and deeper.

But that's just my opinion... I'm not knockin' your speaker choice as the Solobarics are nice... I just woulda went a bit bigger.

Yeah, it just sits back there.

You guys would not believe how hard these 10s hit. The guys at the shop who built the box had all of their buddies come over and check it out because they where amazed. I had everything on the amp and stereo turned all the way down, and it was still to much bass for some songs.

I used to have these in a sealed box in a Dodge Stealth, and they hit fairly hard. Then I moved them to my Tahoe and had this box build, and they hit tons harder after that. To hard if you ask most people that ride with me!

Edit: By the way, the box has a plexiglass back and crazy air routes inside.

I believe how hard it hits... but I also know how much harder/deeper a pair of 15s would hit as well.

But as long as you are happy... it's all good.

I totally believe they hit hard My friend had a 10" SoloBaric L5, just one, in a Camry, and it could hit harder than most people's systems with 2x12" subs.

10" SoloBaric - 24 to 100 Hz, 450W RMS
12" SoloBaric - 20 to 100 Hz, 600W RMS
15" Solobaric - 18 to 100 Hz, 750W RMS

For regular music listening and bumpin' (anything but comp), 2x600W RMS should be enough I'd think! So yeah, I'd go with the 12", but there's no point in moving up to 15" other than cool factor, since you don't gain anything by having 18Hz and 19Hz in your repetoire
