Bye Bye Mustang

Well once again, even after swearing we werent going to do it again, we bought another Ford. As many of you know, I had a 2003 Mustang GT which I couldnt drive due to my ankle being screwed up. We were looking to get a number of different cars, but none of them worked due to various reasons. (The B-pillar in my shoulder or not enough leg room to my head being through the roof.) We had thought we were going to go with the Envoy, but Chevy was being quite stingy with what they were going to give me for the Mustang. As a result, we ended up back at Ford, who had said they were going to give us the full value for the mustang, but told me to try to sell the car on our own first (to get more money).

Today, we went to the dealership so my wife could test drive the new F-150 and look at the difference between the Lariat and a the XLT. The dealership did not have exactly what we were looking for but had some close enough to consider. When we sat down to do the math and see where we were, when the dealership suddenly decided NOT to give us the full value on the Mustang. This royally pissed us off since they had sworn they were going to and that it wouldnt matter if we tried to sell it on our own first. After an hour of negotiating and haggling back and forth, we finally managed to get them to come close enough to where we wanted to be that we took it. (Getting rid of the mustang was a priority and why we took the deal)

The thing that annoyed me, was that instead of getting exactly what we wanted (the Lariat with certain options) we had to settle for a nicely loaded XLT. The difference in the cost between the two (at least for us) was the damn difference in what they offered on the Mustang.

The final verdict: 2004 F-150 XLT 4.6v8 in a nice blue color. Captains chair, power windows, sliding rear window, etc.

I will post pictures when I get a chance to take them.

I'm oddly not sure if I should congratulate, or to say sorry in your not getting what you wanted.

I'll lean on being Pollyanish and say congrats on the new car.

Thanks. No, congrats are definitely in order. Its a really nice truck and I did get rid of the Mustang.

I guess I am just bitter at their sudden change on the amount they paid for the Mustang, which was the difference between getting the Lariat and the XLT without adding money to offset it. I cant really complain about getting a new truck.

Which just goes to show... that the dealers are ALWAYS gonna try to screw you in the end (and by "end" I mean that both literally and figuratively).

Anyways... I understand how you feel about having to get rid of your "baby"... especially since you ended up not getting what you "really wanted". That just sucks.

Honeslty, whenever buying a new car (or truck) that you plan on keeping for awhile, my logic is... ALWAYS GET THE CAR YOU WANT and don't settle (unless you HAVE to as was the case is here...) Regret is a mofo... and the payments on a vehicle that you really ain't crazy about just makes it worse.

Well good luck with the continuing relationship with FURD. Too bad your other half didn't like the Ram (and honestly I don't really understand why... all the women here are CRAZY about my HEMI. ), but hey... you gotta do what you gotta do.

Enjoy... and hopefully your leg pain will ease.

Yes, even my wife said "You know as soon as we sell this car, you will get all better and be able to drive it again.:

Truthfully, even if that is true, I would rather be better and not have the car then be how I am now.

Well from my experience... you can nag and dicker all you want, however it seems that no matter how far you get them down on the price, then they are gonna screw you on the "trade in"... and vice versa.

Honstly, I HATE the fact that the black book does not have the same pricing index as the blue book.... WHY IS THERE 2 PRICING GUIDES!!! And why is it that we as consumers are not allowed to look directly at the coveted black book? Is that like the secret dealer used car guide or something?

The Black book is NEVER higher than the estimated value that the Blue book gives... so what gives?

I NEVER buy new, so that solves a major problem. I can get a three year old car at a gov't auction for 1/3 to 1/4 of the price new.

I have been seeing a ton of late eighties Mustangs in people's front yards for sale in the past few weeks. Plus the local Ford dealer has a bunch of new Mustangs on the front row, which may or may not be selling.
I am not sure what the significance is of this observation.

As long as you don't care about "personal options" (i.e. "color", "trim", "accessories and features", etc...) and you are willing to deal with the unforseen nuances of owning a vehicle that you don't know the previous history of (what do you mean that this vehicle had a blown engine at one time... ), then Gubment auctions can be a good thing.

Some folks see a vehicle as just a "point A to point B" tool... others see it as a "personal statement". It just depends.
