Good thing the husband watched movies and remembered what do if you car starts filling with water. Glad nobody got injured, but this is probably another reason why 80 years olds shouldn't be driving.

Actually, it doesn't say how old the driver was. The owner of the pool was 80. Looking at the picture of the driver's husband, I wouldn't think she was that old.

The driver is 56 and the SUV is parked perfectly in the pool.

Mimi Campanella, who has a learner's permit and is enrolled in driver's education, was crossing the intersection at Kamilo Street and Niumalu Loop and overcompensated for an oncoming car, her husband said.

Dayuuum women drivers... I guess he forgot to put the "Student Driver" tags on huh?

BTW... the husband is 56... so I'd assume that his wife was probably close to that age as well.

I wonder how long is is gonna be before the NEXT time he tries to teach her to drive... I'm thinkin' that he'll probably just say "to hell with it" and just chauffeur her around for now on.

Reminds me of a scene in the movie "In The Bedroom"

One of the characters is driving behind another vehicle with a "Student Driver" bumper sticker on, and the license plate read "PRAY4US"

Mimi Campanella was shaken by Saturday's incident, and doctors advised her to get back on the road soon, her husband said.

Wow 2500-5000 for towing, that is some cash jsut for getting it out. Any bets to if is totaled or not, and is this kind of stupidity covered? I would say totaled, interier is gone, engine took in water, electrical all wet, on the plus side it is clean (not muddy) water.

Total loss.
Now with every Mimi I meet, I will be wondering if she is also a bad driver.

I have heard that for liability reasons, insurance companies will total any car that has been underwater. The electrical switches and such will never be 100% unless they are all replaced, and that includes switches for the airbags. If there is any chance that the airbags are not 100% functional, insurance companies don't want the risk.
