Anybody have experience with hitch-mounted cargo carriers?

Do you like them? Should I buy one instead of a roof rack? What material did you get? steel, aluminum, polypropylene?

i'm thinking about one of these

or one of these folding polypro racks.

i bought this one. i also bought this.

i'm a bit worried tho'. the hitch on our van is pretty low. i'll have to decide whether or not i need an extension that will get it 2.5 inches higher or not. i don't want to be scraping the road with the cargo carrier. i also have to figure out how to mount a bike attachment as well. they have bike mounts you can put on it but they're crapl.

The escape hybrid or a small-mid SUV.

sigh. i tried mang. i tried. i looked at every one of them. however, none of them came even close to having the functionality and space of the van we bought. we almost bought a honda pilot. but honestly, until you are getting kids in and out of a vehicle, you won't understand the allure of the van.

hopefully my next vehicle will be a hyrid small suv. we'll see.
