Yes, now I just have to wait for twee to post her license plate.

Actually it's a long story but to make it short, someone stole my keys. I know nothing about him but I can assume he just might have some ties that can get him an address. Now, I don't feel like rekeying my car since I live far enough away from where they were stolen so that I don't fear him finding my car accidentally, I don't really feel like ploping down that kind of money, and he'd have to somehow get by my alarm system. But if he could find my address, I might have to reconsider.

Private eyes can generally find ou that information. It shouldnt be public information, but where theres a will, there is a way. I would probably just change the locks if you are concerned.

I too wondered this so I did a google search. There's a fee BUT yes, it appears that one can do that with a plate # and state.

My roommate is pretty notorious for his keys getting stolen/lost/misplaced. He has a 02 f150, everytime he needs a new set he can get 2 new keys, and his truck ignition re programmed to the 2 new keys for under one hundered bucks.

Can't do it in CA - legally. Anyone with a friend who works for the police or DMV or what not will be able to but they stopped giving out that information to the general public a year or so ago.

If its a Ford. Go to the dealer and they can deactivate that one key. Sure it will open the doors and turn the ignition but it wont start the car.

I'm pretty sure you will need to bring your other keys with you.

Read the owners manual you may be able to do it yourself depending on the year and model.

You can do this with pretty much any car that has a microchip in the ignition key. It is a great security feature.
