Bought a new ride today!!
1999 Toyota Tacoma 4x2 Regular cab. Nothing spectacular. Just a reliable truck. Only 38k miles though, which sold me on it. Its a few years old but low miles and in great shape. The color sucks (its white) but I made them throw in a paint job. Soon it will be high gloss black. I'll post pics next week when the paint is done. I'm pretty stoked, my first car that isn't a piece of garbage.

Unless it was a damn good paint job, I'd stick with the original coat. I just think that would protect better than anything else. Tip: If you don't want to end up like many others with 8 years on their car and rusted areas/ worn looking panit you must: clean. polish. feed.

Are you going to be using your truck's powers for good or for evil?
Rather, are you going to be using the bed of it often? Consider spray on bedliner or custom fit. Don't forget the big toolbox, either ![]()

It already has a bedliner. Nah, no offroading in this 4 cylander. And I'll be making definite good use out of the bed. I'm pretty adament about the paint job, I refuse to own a white car, especially one with a heinously ugly vinyl graphic on it. This car is my baby, so I'll be taking hella good care of it.

Bah, that's not the question. The question is, will you be using your truck's powers for good or for awesome? |

Nice choice. If you take care of it, it'll last you as long as you want. The 22R-E engine is basically bulletproof. I would suggest going up a size or two on the tires. Nothing wider, just taller. I had 215's on my 94 4x2 and it allowed it to sit just a little higher and ride much better.

OK, here are the pics finally. I'm having second thoughts abiut having it painted now. I may see if they will give me whatever the paint job would cost in other accessories (like softtop bed cover etc) instead. I also included two pics of my friend's dad's brand new e500.

I know you said you really want the paint but I would really stick with the stock paint and take the funky graphics off. Two reasons (actually 3):
1) Stock paint is usually just plain better. 2) White is not that bad. Doesnt show dirt or blemishes. Personally I think white is a great color. (I would NEVER own a black car. Most of the time they look like crap even after you wash/wax them -swirls- unless you take your sweet a$$ time and use special cleaners/waxes/polishes on it. Balck is a LOT of work to keep looking nice.) Anyways. Cool truck. I had a toyota and loved it. Toyota trucks are like the energizer of trucks. They keep going and ........ |

Yeah, I'm almost certainly not going to paint it now after I've slept on it a few days. One other thing I'm slowly getting used to is drivign a 4 cylander. My first car was a 6 and my parents have always owned 8's or 6's. This is my first time really drivign a 4 and I definitly notice the lack of power, but I don't really mind, its just different.

This is the correct answer... A heat gun and a little effort with a plastic putty knife will take the stripe off. Then compound lightly and wax... Does the Crystal Sands motel still exist in Vero Beach? (Memory fragment from a long time ago...)

I guess that's just the price of "gettin' pimped" huh? ![]() Quote:
Unless you are gonna do some mods like wheels and/or a body kit... I'd just as well leave the paint alone... and drive the hell outta it. Just my 2 cents... ![]() |

I was going to say exactly what Darkfury did, but he beat me to it. The graphic is not as bad as you were making it out to be. It gives your car distinction.

I agree 100%. 4 of my last 6 vehicles have been white, including both of the ones I currently own. I have owned one black vehicle, and while there is NOTHING that looks as good as a freshly washed and waxed black vehicle, it sure doesn't take long to look dirty again. I've been amazed at how filthy white vehicles can get before they start to look dirty. As far as the graphic goes, I don't think it looks tacky but that's your personal choice. Take it off if you don't like it, but I was picturing something really obnoxious when you first talked about it. If you can get them to give you the cash instead of the paint job, go for it. Otherwise, maybe they would do a spray-in bedliner instead. I'd get a hard tonneau cover rather than a soft one, however. Especially with a standard cab, it's really nice to gain some lockable, secure storage. I wouldn't leave anything in a truck with a soft tonneau that I wouldn't leave in an open bed. Nice truck, though. ![]()
