If $$ not an option, go for the beemer. If you care about your dough in regards to repairs, go for the Lex.

well i agree that you get more for your money with the Lex, but BMW's dont break down that often (when they do it costs more than other cars though)

You know guys....the New C-class is coming out...with the new design...the lights are shaped like the S-class...
I like the BMW M3...However, I haven't heard about the Lexus IS 300 very much. I saw it once, and it look pretty good on the outside, except of the back lights. |

If money is no object, go for BMW. M3 is great but the price is unbelieveablely high and also a long waiting list. New 330 4WD is another option. Beware that there're lots of electronic problems with BMW. New C-class is good too, the hp improves and so does the look. And IS300, for me, I just feel like it's a high class Toyota Corolla.

If money isnt a issue, go with the bmw. YOu wont have many problems with it. I know a few ppl with pretty old bmw's that'l beat my eclipse, then again my eclipse isnt really super, its just fun to drive.
I hear very good things about the is 300 though, but remember that this is its first year and there's probably many little kinks they'll have to work out of that ar. ------------------ ~Grizy Great, so how much is shipping? |

In this order and reasons:

[1]Bimmer, just the best in its class hands down, no questions asked. [2]MB C class. Very refined and rock solid reliability of MB. [3]IS300, new car, unrefined. I would stay away from this car even though it is a Toyota. Usually first generation cars are plagues with problems, no matter what manufacturer.
[This message has been edited by spigidygak (edited 08-16-2000).] |

The IS300 has been around for awhile, just not in the USA.

I realize it has been released in Japan a few years earlier as the Toyota alteza but, its still the same generation car, which is first gen. What I mean by refined is years, even decades of work put into the car. Such as the 3 series, it has gone through several generations of work, just as the c-class has too. This refinement process has just begun for Toyota. I'm sure the IS300 has great potential to becoming an excellent automobile like the E46 Bimmer or MB C-class, but potential is all for now. |

Not all evolutions are good though. The C was de-contented throughout the middle years to keep profit levels up and costs down.

True true, but with the changes (bad or good), comes refinement to an auto more closer to nirvana.

I agree with the majority:
1 BMW the sport sedan everyone trys to copy. 2 Mercedes getting better... 3 Lexus a sports sedan with out a stick, what are they thinking, nice metal pedals though... |

MB is the king of qulaity in the luxury car market, those things are tanks. But BMW has its sportiness, but most of the E36 and older models had some reliability issues. But I still love that lil' factory in Bavaria |

Anyone have any strong feelings on an Audi A4 or even an S4? I know the S4 is supposed to be competition for the M3 (or at least the old M3). Speaking of the new M3, I got to see it up close last weekend, and I got to sit inside the Z8

You're a bitch 2002
. Anyhow, I've seen a bunch of those s4 around here and there, they're very nice looking for a sedan. But if I had mah choice, I'm sticking with BMW, I like coupes better. You should know Mr. 2002tii. |

My question is would the IS 300 hold up it's end of the Lexus quality if it was driven hard? If I buy I sports car I drive a sports car. I don't know if Lexus really cared to beef up the tranny, torque converters, flywheel, clutch, etc to handle the abuse the car is to endure.
I see at most 1% of the Lexi on the roads being driven hard on So Cal freeways. This in contrast to Civics and Accords with 1/3 the HP driving like madmen and having tons of mechanical failures. Ever notice how 1/3 of all Accord chases on LA freeways lead to overheated engines hehe. That Jeep Cherokee that overheated was also hillarious. That engine had a meltdown on live TV, but it was doing some 100+ speeds for a while. ------------------ Ço£o§§ü§ - yeah you can read into it... |
