Paint jobs

Aside from bringing my car to the dealer, what are my other options to have the entire left side of my car repainted? I know Maaco is cheap, but I hear they do a pretty crappy job. Basically, I can pay my $500 insurance deductible and get it done by a body shop, but if I can get away with paying less that'd be great.

If you want it to look right, go to a body shop. Key marks are hard to get out and a place taking short cuts will definitley screw it up.

Umm... what is the total cost of the body shop job? If it is over $1,000 or more, then I'd pay the deductible and get it done.

I remember having to have my truck (the Dakota) repainted was originally gonna cost me like $2500... however the dealership worked out a deal where they had it painted for $1400 and we split the cost... so more or less $500 doesn't sound all that bad if it is done at a reputable body shop.

Actually, it's going to cost me $250. I thought I lowered my deductible from 1,000 to 500 for both my Collision and Comprehensive. It turns out I lowered my comprehensive to $250.

I just called AAA and I can have my car fixed at the Toyota dealership where I get all my servicing...which is conveniently within walking distance of where I live and where I work. Best of all, I will be covered under the Toyota lifetime warranty and I am confident they'll be using the right color paint

For $250... I'd get it done. Good deal.

Still sucks to have to spend the cash... but would suck more if you had to pay full fare.

Ya... for $250, I'd definitely do it. That's a small price to pay for a quality paint job, much less with a life time guarantee.

Bring it to the shop. Don't be cheap on the paint job.

what is a justifiable reason to get a paint job and use your insurance to cover it? Or can you do it for any reason *highly unlikely*

Isn't that the point of "Comprehensive Insurance"... for all damages to your vehicle not caused by a collision?

Keying a car would be considered vandalism which is covered...

Vandalism will not affect your premiums, unless you are the vandal.

Depends on how many incidents you have in like a 3 year period...

Also it depends on the insurance company...

But this is WHY you pay for Comprehensive insurance... to cover your butt in "non collision" incidents. Although I'd be wary of just claiming stuff for the sake up... (but this one is BIG... so it's no problem)

If you need to have a whole side repainted, make sure the shop you go to has their own paint mixing machine. Without it, they will only paint stock colors and will not be able to tint and color correct for fading, and anomalies in the color.
