Help my sister pick out a car!

My sister Dre recently came back from a movie and found her car spun 90 degrees different from the direction she parked it. Most likely someone was racing in the parking garage and clipped her car, enough to spin it and bend the frame. It was a 99 Altima, and the repair cost was around 6 grand so they totalled it. Now she's moving up to Irvine with her job with nothing but her Honda Shadow. She's in the market for a new car now, and since she has a pretty damn good job she's thinking of getting something a little sportier than an Altima.

On the low end she's thinking maybe a nice Honda Accord:

she's got her eye on the Audi TT as well:

or maybe even a BMW Z4 Roadster:

But she is not sure. Can you guys recommend a nice sporty car, for a young single business woman? Price anywhere from $20 - $40 I would think.

Please keep it clean. I am going to send her this link.

Thanks!

I've always liked the SVT Focus If she wants, I'm sure I can give a demo. It's probably faster than she needs though it's no race car. Oh but if you do get it soon; 04 was the last year.

Hah, I guess you just have to like hatchbacks... But you like the 04 accords? I will never understand some people's taste in cars. They are all bulbus and funny looking. In a few years the 04s will really look strange and will not have the same resale as the rest of the accords (like the 99s). It's a safer bet to go with more mainstream styling.

I suppose if she isn't into hatch backs the 05 Focus ST (the SVT wannabe) is a rather sporty refined sedan.

Focus is the mainstream styling??? "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". IMHO, the Focus looks like $hit just like the new Civic SI.

Out of those 3, I would go for the Accord V6 because it's cheaper and has pretty good quality. Throw in some 19" wheels and a mild drop, it will look even better.

I'm not going to argue aesthetics all day, it probably should be left out of the mix because it's up to his sister. Personally, I thought the hatchback and sedan were more mainstream because there's thousands of cars that have those general shapes while bulbus is the odd ball out.

I love the TT and the Roadster. But the accord would be more practical.

Would she like the convertible? (looking at the TT, & Z4 ideas)

Nissan 350Z convertible
Honda S2000 convertible
Audi A4 convertible (more than 2 seats)
BMW 3 series convertible (more than 2 seats)

there's the mustang convertible idea
or if you're willing to go up to 40, the lotus elise convertible =) that would be unique

if she's going to stick with a coupe, I dig the Scion TC (yeah, cheaper end - but I'd go for it over the accord coupe).

with coupes
infiniti G35
mazda rx-8

or you can go american and find a corvette for cheap - they're always marking those down.

yeah, the Volvo's are nice. but out of the original 3 choices, I gotta take the TT. that car is just plain sweet. I don't know if they make an auto transmission, but I think people should be shot for buying auto in a sports car. if your sister gets something sporty, make sure she gets a manual transmission so she can enjoy the car she paid so much for.

TT, Z4, and the Accord comes in third for me. Test drive, test drive, test drive!

Acura RSX. S type with a little more power if she likes a stick. And most girls seem to. They are pretty fun, pretty small, and still pretty economical. I have enjoyed my 2004 one immensly.

The Focus is one ugly mother...but moving on...I think there's a bit of a range between 20-40k. That covers a HUGE spectrum of cars.
I personally wouldn't mind any one of these...
I think the RX-8 has too crappy of a gas mileage tho.
G35
RX-8
350Z
325ci
S2000
TT
Z4

If she wants to save some money, accord v6 is the way to go.

For 23.5K she's just a short step away from a WRX, Mazda speed miata, RX8, etc, an entire class above.

My suggestions for that range from low to high:

SCION tC
Accord coupe (least fun but most sensible)
Mazda RX-8
G35 coupe/350Z convertible
Audi TT
C5 Corvette

IMO, the Z4 is ugly, overpriced, underpowered and just screams "I'm a biatch in a Bimmer." The WRX is not on my list just because it is not in the class of cars she originally considered.

G35 coupe is the best bang for the buck entry level luxury sport car on the list. A few of my friends have them and are very happy with them. She may prefer the z though I think they are not as nice looking.
Ask for a realistic amount she wants to spend. Though I am against leasing, a lot of people lease a nice convertable, etc. for a couple years to tie them over till they find the car they really want. No use in spending 40k for a car that doesn't do anything more for her than an accord would do imo.

That's the first time i've heard that one. That logic usually doesn't work for people like me tho. heh I'd be tired of the same car after 4 years.

Hi...I'm new at Got|Apex btw...heres my list of cars:

G35 Coupe
350Z
Acura TL
Mazda 6
Audi A4

From my list my list of cars. I'll pick the G35 above all. Just because its fun to drive and you get power in the car also. But whatever her choice is, I hope she finds one that suits her the best.

As a businessperson, it's my opinion that she should get a car with more than 2 seats...

Personal Opinion: She should probably look at cars with more than 2 seats still, unless this is a 2nd car.

Entry lux segment cars worth Considering:
Infiniti G35 sedan/coupe
Honda TSX
Honda Accord/ Coupe
Mazda 6 5 door/wagon
Lexus IS300
Audi A4/Avant
BMW 325i/330i/325i touring
Volvo S40/V50 Turbo
Volvlo S60R/V70R 6spd Mt.
Saab 9-3, 9-2x

These cars all give about the same visceral fun as a 2-seater, plus are versatile, luxurious and discreet.

I'd recommend you to have her check out all the cars she is interested in, and at least give them all a test drive and chance to drive all the cars to feel how they're like. If she wants to buy a nice car, might as well make sure her money is well spent.

Definitely stay away from Audi's. They've got pretty bad reliability ratings and aren't worth the hassle. I know a bunch of people who have recent Audi's (A4's, S4's, TT's), and they've all had freak problems within the first year or two. One friend recently made the dealer buy back his S4 because the gas gauge problem he was having still wasn't fixed after bringing it in for repair 6 times!!

I agree with the others that suggested the G35 (coupe baby!!). Those have gotten extremely high ratings over the past couple years and friends of mine who have gotten them can't say enough good things about them. Boy is this making me crave one right now...

girls like good looking cars. while i respect the speed and power of a WRX, especially the STi, it is one ugly mofo of a car. it looks like an old Corolla or almost as bad as an Echo.

Mini

Just a recommendation. I think the Mini Convertible is pretty cool . Mini looks cool, good to drive, they have a new convertible model out. There might be some limited cargo space but it depends on what you need it for.
