best oil for my old/aging car?
so i have an old '96 honda civic (not modded...thank you)...and it's rapidly approaching 200,000 miles...yea i logged all those miles
car runs decent, is really loud, but that's ok....i'm just wondering, what kind of oil should i put in? and on a dumb note... what's the diff between 10W-30 vs 10W-40...i've been told several conflicting things.... |

They have different viscosities. The first number is a measure of how thick the oil is at a cold temperature and the second number is measure at operating temperature.
I was once told you want a thicker oil in older cars. So go with a 20 W50. Also since your car is old you may want to get one with a seal swell agent. Therse usually say high milage formulas. Or you canget an additve, such as the "honey". I tend to use synthetic oil in my vehicle. I use Mobile 1 10W30. |
