How do you locate you car?

I'm thinking about getting lojack for my car and business. It hides a locator in the car that police can pick up if it's stolen.

Personally, I want of find something that will work like that, but I want to be able to locate it myself.

What is some of the stuff you are using, or have hear of?

You have a problem with getting your car stolen?

Maybe you should buy a GM with the "OnStar" system. You can call them and they'll tell you where your car is.

Other than that, you might wanna do a google search for "automotive GPS systems" and just sift through the info out there.

Here is an interesting hit: http://www.gps-practice-and-fun.com/...-tracking.html

Personally, I just locate my car by just remembering where I parked it...

Hmm. I thought that's why they invented the "Panic" button on my keyless entry.

As we all know, there are people where that system just doesn't work.

But I'm doing it mostly for business. I help people get of of leases they don't want, but I only deal in high dollar (think 50K and up) cars. This would make it easier to repo cars, especially if I don't want the police to jack up the car and then jack me for impound fees.

The remote on my 2003 gm truck works from such insane distances (100yd's) and my town is so small, if my truck ever got stolen I could probably drive around and hit the panic button and hear my truck at some point. haha.

Or not.

Ugg...most of these services are so expensive! 300 and up each vehicle for them to track, 1400 and up for self tracking. I don't even want to track or record where my customers go on a daily basis. I just want to locate the car if I ever need to repossess it.

If you pay the $700 for Lojack or whatever it costs, then you won't have to worry about repossessing the car yourself. Why not have the authorities do it for you?

Lojack is when they bust the car open to put something in it. Not my idea of a good thing. And if someone takes your car and drives it for fun and jacks it up... do you really want the cops to find it? I'd almost rather they don't...
if you really want to keep an eye on your car, get one of those homing things they sell. I guess its more a matter of how far away you feel your car can get.

Unlike the CPU procs and few other things, I agree with DF on both points
On Star is the stuff.

Cops don't do stealth. If they find the car with the person in it, they'll try to chase them down.

I, on the other hand, follow them to where they're going and then jack back my car with an extra set of keys. No car chase, no impound fees, no jackass taking my exotic car for a ride.
