classic cars
Anyone here have a classic car from the old days they admire? I have always liked the Boss Mustang, and there was that cool Shelby Mustang replica in Gone in 60 Seconds.

Classic car I admire. I don't think I would ever get one. A kit car maybe for fun, but not the real deal.

Ya, the Shelby GT500 is a pretty drool worthy automobile. Everytime I see one on Barrett-Jackman I wish I had the means to be there and purchase it.

The GTO is what i have. The GT-500 is what i imagine having. Angelina Jolie is just a nice mantle piece.

I can guarantee you that Angelina Jolie would be much higher maintenance than your Goat and a GT-500 combined... Pristine Goat - '67 is my favorite year. I have a good friend in Concord, NC that has several '60s GTOs and is well known within PHS and GTO circles as an authority on those cars. My pop-in-law and his brother owned a Pontiac dealership in Kingston, PA from 1962-1970. The glory years...

Thats very awesome. My grandfather bought a 1967 GTO right off the lot and gave it to me a few years back, so i could keep it up and clean it up. I really enjoy them. Family cars with a lot of power. ![]() |

That it was inherited from your grandfather makes it even more special. My dad was a Ford man in his youth, buying $50 Model As and installing Ford flathead V8 engines in them. He also liked sports cars - he dated my mother in a '53 Jag XK-120 roadster in the late 50's. He couldn't get a Mustang equipped the way he wanted in late '64 (demand for the Mustang was ten times higher than what Ford could produce after it was first introduced - the dealer would not even take his order...) so he ordered a '65 Plymouth Barracuda fastback, 273 4-barrel and Torqueflite. Bought a new one each year - '65, '66 and '67, all gold. The '66 and '67 were Formula S cars. (Formula S was to a Barracuda as GT was to a Mustang and Super Sport or SS was to Camaros, Chevelles, and Impalas of the era - the performance option package...) Kept the '67 as it was his favorite. Mine, too. It was hit in the rear and totaled by a UVa student driving drunk in the early fall of '69, and it was replaced with a brand-new 1970 'Cuda 340. Wish I had that one, too. That car was traded in on a '73 240Z, which I inherited upon my departure for college in the fall of 1979. Just before I graduated from high school, one of my neighbors offered my a mint 43,000-mile '70 Boss 302 Mustang. The asking price? $1200! I had the money, but Dad said no. I'm still kicking myself 25 years later. I've had some interesting cars over the years, too, but mine have been more oddball than classic. But I have rambled enough... |

I had the honor and pleasure of meeting and having my picture taken with Chuck Beck at the SEMA show in Las Vegas a couple of years ago. He invited me to visit his shop in Cali whenever I got out there. He was a helluva sports car racer back in the day, and builds some beautiful replicas now. He's now farmed out building 550 Spyders to a facility in Texas. Now he's doing a replica of the '60s Lister-Chevrolet: ![]() Last edited by mechmike0034 : 09-24-2004 at 05:01 PM. |

Yeah, there are all kinds of classic cars. I would even say the Viper is reaching an age where it could be called a modern classic.
GM made a few cool cars too back in the day, I will give them that. Camaro, Trans Am http://www.nastyz28.com/camaro/camaro70.html http://www.geocities.com/wrenchplus/73xtra.html http://www.78ta.com/international.htm GTO, Chevelle http://www.gtoheaven.com/images/GT0/...stGtoTiger.jpg http://www.gtoheaven.com/images/GT0/...parkPlugCp.jpg http://www.chevelles.com/feature/february2004.html |

Zora Arkus-Duntov's '72 Chevelle... Wow!
http://www.chevelles.com/feature/october2003.html Zora was the chief engineer of the Corvette, and the man who literally created Chevrolet performance in the '50s. I owned a '71 402 Chevelle back in the day. Hot rod station wagons are all the rage now - I had one 20 years ago. Last edited by mechmike0034 : 09-25-2004 at 12:14 PM. |
