These Bikes are so Cool!!
http://www.schwinnstingray.com/bike-street.htmlI was at the Englishtown swap meet on Friday. I saw a kid riding one of these. There was also a dealer selling them for $300. With a fatter tire in the rear, a fat rear fender, a fake tank and a headlight, it would be even cooler.

Yeah, not something you would want to take on a long distance ride.

Built my own when I was a kid. TV antenna mast (like most of you know what THAT is...) makes MAD extended forks when gas-welded with an old piece of coat hanger for a welding rod. Beat the lower ends flat with a ball peen hammer and drill axle holes.
You drop the rear of the frame by hacksawing the welds loose holding the rear loop at the seatpost, heating the bottom of the tubes behind where they attach to the crank mount, and bending the whole rear cradle up. Then reweld the seatpost joints. A rattlecan full of black spray paint and you're in business. Jesse who? It's a wonder I lived to reminisce...

I am thinking of modifying an old bike, cutting the tubes and welding them back together. Most of the other parts can be had pretty cheap. I wonder where I could find those custom wheels that they use on the choppers? They are probably expensive, though. And a fat rear tire..would it make the bike unstable? I definitely want a tank, but it may interfere with my knees as I am pedalling. It will probably have to be real shallow. |
