Uh oh... where's the RCA line out on my CD player??
Jensen CD3010X
I bought this thinking that it would have a red and white RCA terminal on the back of it, but when I got the package, there was only a place for the harness and antenna! I took a look at the installation manual, and it shows a wire that leads to an external RCA jack. WEIRD How the heck can I get a wiring harness with RCA jacks? Anyone have an idea and can explain how this works (to a dummy)?

Ummm... not to pick here, but in the "installation manual", it says that the Wiring Adapter for the RCA Outputs is "Purchased Separately"... I guess you have to go buy the proper adapter and then splice it in... ![]()

Well I can't afford a nice CD player yet, Mr. $1100 chrome wheels (just kiddin
)...but when it said "1 Pair Preamp Outputs / Auxiliary Input (3.5 mm)" I thought it would have 'em, but I was the one that assumed they'd be RCA... ahhh well... I can't find what I need on their website. On another note, it does looks like it can be done somehow by getting an adapter and splicing wires, so any advice on what to get or look for at Radio Shack would be a huge help to me. EDIT: Any ideas how to make this happen? Last edited by ski : 09-30-2004 at 07:24 PM. |

But as far as lookin' as badarse... I won't even try ![]() So here's my only idea: I buy the $7 Wiring Harness from WalMart. I plug one end into the back of the head unit, and the other end into my factory harness right? If that fits, I'll take the harness and head unit into Radio Shack and hope (long shot) that someone working there is competent enough to tell me how to draw the 1 or 2 wires out to some RCA jacks... |

Didn't the radio come with a wiring harness? The harness that you linked to would plug into the connector that's already in your car. You would connect the wires from that to the wires from the new radio's wiring harness. All the wires should be marked and color coded. If you want to do a neat job you solder the wires together and use heat shrink tubing.

Why don't you just save yourself some headache and just go buy a high level to low level adapter....
Honestly, you are thinkin' WAY too hard about this. BTW... you are right, I'm kinda picky about my stuff... therefore in the HEMI, I elected to keep the factory head unit (since it integrates with the steering wheel controls) therefore I too needed a high level to low level adapter.... But I'm taking it one step further... I'm gonna use a pre-amp line driver to do this. The one I have picked is the AudioControl "Overdrive"... pretty much this beast will pump up to 24 dB gain to the amps. ![]() http://www.audiocontrol.com/MobileAu...Overdrive.html ![]() The downside is... it costs around $100, which pretty much would make it pointless to pair up with your stereo (since you are on a tight budget), but man... they sure do a nice job of cleaning up the signals from your radio going into your amps. That WalMart harness does not plug directly into your head unit. One end has a plug or socket that connects to the existing factory speaker/power wiring (that used to plug into the back of your factory unit), and the other end has bare wires to splice/connect to the plug (that you don't have, shown in your diagram from the online head unit manual) that connects to the head unit. This is shown in step 3 of this document (DF's link) - take a look at the pictures. http://www.audiovox.com/manuals/owne...stallation.pdf Unless you can match something up at a local car stereo place, you'll need to order the Audiovox harness to connect anything to your Audiovox head unit.

I'm wonderin if I should just return this, and cough up the $10 to ship it back...
Jensen wiring harness $20 to $30 most places ![]() Would you trust this company to return an item and get a refund? Their info is at the end of the auction I won: linkified "If You are Requesting a Return for a Problem mentioned in the auction, your Request will be Denied. In order to return a product, the customer must contact Essex within 10 Days from the date of receiving the item. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE. If it is over the 10 day period, an RMA request will be denied. If you have any Questions about needing to return an item, please contact us at buyessex@essextechgroup.com. Be Sure to include the item # and a description of the problem. No Refunds/Exchange will be given until Essex has the Original Product returned to our Warehouse. When Applicable, Essex will send a Replacement instead of issuing a refund. It is up to the Customer to Pay Freight on Returns. All Freight Claims must be settled with UPS/Fed Ex before issuing refunds." |

I am really not trying to be hard on you, but the auction where you bought the head unit clearly states that the harness was missing. (Left column, near the bottom).
Quote:
Most eBay stuff (and there are exceptions, but they vary greatly) is "you bought it - you own it". Had the seller not stated that there was no harness then you'd have a legitimate dispute. Don't be suprised if the seller denies your request. Last edited by mechmike0034 : 10-01-2004 at 07:46 AM. |

In response to an email questioning about returning it, they said "10 DAYS ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS. This is 10 days from the receipt of your package. If you email us within those 10 days we will accept the return. The 10 days is not business days but 10 days (Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sun) from the day you receive that item. If you request a return outside of those 10 days you will be denied. This is also stated on all of our auctions under terms and conditions. BuyEssex pays for ABSOLUTELY NO SHIPPING BACK TO US. Please be aware of this. We want to be forward and upfront about it. Contact us at buyessex@essextechgroup.com with the words REQUEST FOR RMA in the subject line." what do you make of it now? I don't know what I'd say about the problem, other than I found another one within 10 days of receipt (might not qualify) or should I try to turn around and sell it on ebay for maybe like $35 or $40 shipped? Ski...
Honestly dude... if I were them I wouldn't refund you in this case (like MM said above, I'm not trying to be hard on you, but the facts are clearly here...). The unit is functional, yet the auction clearly stated that the wire harness, Remote control, owner's manual, and any item not listed as included were NOT INCLUDED in the auction. They lived up to their part of the deal and now you have "Buyers Remorse" for not having the appropriate harness. The good news is... it will only cost you $22.50 to rectify this situation by buying the harness that the other guy is selling on Ebay... and honestly, I think that is what you should do at this point. You want the radio, you NEED the harness, the original seller is not a fault here but you are left holding a radio that you can't use without the other part... case closed. Is cash really THAT tight over there? I wouldn't waste $10 trying to ship it back and then be at -$10 in getting your stereo together. Just suck it up as a partial loss, get the harness and be done with it. Just be more careful next time. BTW... if you've seen my thread in the "Suckage" forum, I lost out on buying a $60 total Overdrive due to dealing with a STUPID seller and now it actually is gonna cost me like $102 to buy it "brand new" somewhere else (because I don't wanna wait to try to buy another used one...) Either way, stuff like this comes and goes...and $25 generally isn't gonna break anyone one way or another. Just my own take on it... but yeah I know... I'm "rich" and all that with my $1100 chrome wheels and such. ![]() Last edited by DarkFury : 10-01-2004 at 10:34 AM. |

I think I'm going to do one of 3 things:
1. Sell it back on eBay and hope to make at least half it back (being careful to state in the auction that harness is not included again) 2. Be on the lookout for a cheap harness.. right now there is NO place that even sells it - the one on eBay went for $50 ![]() 3. Talk to my Electronics teacher and see if he would want to take it on as a side project for a favor or some cash to make a harness |

What gives...???
The one you showed us the other day was a $19.99 + $2.50 shipping "Buy Now". Did you think too long on it and let it slip through your fingers? Personally, I'd e-mail that "ed_nigma" to see if he has another one for sale. And if so... buy buy buy! ![]() Good luck... EDIT: I just looked at the auction again... which ended on 9/24/04. Well I'd still e-mail him to see if he has any more to sell. It can't hurt... ![]() |

Man... you need to focus on setting up a "favorite search" on Ebay...
You missed out on this one for $6.99 + free shipping: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW It ended on Sep 30... and was only out there for one day. Honestly, I think this is gonna be your best bet... |

First you put your search term in the search box (I'd suggest "Jensen harness"... so that you get more hits). Hit go to search... On the search listing page, there is a hyperlink on the far right that says "Add to Favorites". Click that. When you get to the Favorites page, Click the options to save the search, it's name, and the time frame for it to give you e-mails each time it comes across a new item that matches your search terms. After that... just save the search and you're all set. This way, the next time an antenna comes by, you'll be aware of it and will act appropriately. Good luck man... I know how you feel in looking for that "hard to find" part. I've been there... and done that. ![]() |

UPDATE ALERT:
A Jensen harness has been spotted on Ebay with about 1 day 19 hours to go... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW Current bid is at $22.26 (I'd recommend wating until about 30 seconds are left in the auction and then bid it up to $30 - $35 if necessary) Or... I'd send an e-mail to this Ed_nigma guy and ask if he would be willing to sell one outright to ya. (I've seen that he has listed this product before, so more or less that tells me that he has a line on getting them... maybe he'll sell you one outright without the Ebay hassle...) |

I saw that on eBay this past week, and while I was thinking about getting it, I went ahead and got an Aiwa head unit off Sears' website for $90 off (it was $57)...
If I can sell the Jensen one for $25 or $30 on eBay, I'll be happy... thanks for looking though ![]() |

Talk about a HOT item.
![]() I wouldn't be surprised if this were a setup by the first guy who is selling units with no harness... ![]() I sell em the unit... with no harness, and then you gank them with the harness price. Wow... ![]() |

holy CRAP.
went for $72 shipped. for a FREAKIN wiring harness!!! ![]() My new head unit from sears came in today.. $68 shipped. Buying the Jensen one + this new one was less than getting the jensen and the harness to get it to work. |
