What dealer's are open that late at night. Looks staged, and a stang at a toyota dealership, kinda stuck out like a sore thumb. No salesmen would let you drive a car without a liscense and proof of insurance, espcially if they have a camera. At some points it seems real, but at others not/. I imagine this has been floated aroud the internet a bit, maybe someone already knows what the story is.

Yeah, looks fake to me too - I don't think they would be organized enough to have a camera inside AND outside of the car.

Amusing nonetheless.

Yeah, the dealership should hold your license. Thats how it usually works. Pretty sure it ain't real.

No way! The dealership has NO right to even COPY your license. They have to verify that it is valid, but that is all.

Few notes...first the mere fact that there was a Cobra at a Toyota dealership doesnt really bother me. I have seen them all over the place as trade ins from guys who suddenly realize they need to be responsible adults.

I know of a lot of car dealerships that are open until 9- 10pm and later. Especially if it was a special weekend, they extend their hours, so once again, that doesnt bother me.

The issue with the drivers license...some places do require that they take a copy of the license and ALL ask that you have insurance. The salesperson was younger and he might have been more remiss, but still that did seem a bit fishy. I give it a bit more credibility because the guy keeps getting upset about the speed/ possibility of a ticket/ what they are doing to the car. However, what I view as the nail in the coffin is that the guy would never have let them burn out like that. Way too much liability...would basically be his job and it was RIGHT in front of the dealership.

As such, I cry fake to this one.

Another thing which bothered me was that it was labeled as an '03 Cobra. The Cobra was put on hiatus in March 04 meaning that there really werent many '04's made. As a result people are trying to snatch up '03's and the dealerships are more protecting of them. Then again, some of the local dealerships that I was dealing with here had no clue about ANY of the Mustang variants and tried to rip me off when I was selling mine.

One more thing is that when you have a hot car on the lot like that, you get a lot of yahoos coming in asking for a test drive. My buddy who works at a Pontiac dealer got to the point where he would make people go through a credit check before he would let them drive the GTOs on the lot, just because so many people just wanted to take it for a spin.

I would never do a credit check just to test drive a car. That's retarded.

But, if you were really in the market to buy a car and really interested in THAT particular car, you would go ahead with it. I'm sure your reasoning is that what if I dont like the way the car drives or decide after the fact that its not for me, which is the reason for a test drive. However, even if they do the credit check its not obligating you to buy the car. I can understand why you would not want to do it, but at the same time the idea that they are going to do that would scare away yahoos who really arent intrested in buying it/cant afford the car.

Most of the places that I have seen that done were the Ferrari/Lamborgini dealerships and honestly, the money is the bottom line for those cars.

True, I would not do it for 'stang tho, not ever a cobra for that matter. Now ferrari's and lambo's that's a different story, those cars are easily more expensive that some people's homes. But the general rule for me is not to do it. There isn't one car dealership or car that i can't walk away from.
