2006 Dodge Charger

I work right behind DMCs HQ, and I've been seeing a few of these bad boys driving around lately:

Yes, they DO come with the 340HP Hemi, and hopefully they'll offer an SRT-8 with 425HP. I saw a black Charger GT, I think was the label, and it had a chrome grille & chrome rims that had to be 18". VERY nice.

Edit: Oops - on the Charger, it's a 350HP.

I agree with DF....the original was off the hook. This still looks sweet in person, but not cool enough for me to drop the cash on it.

Any idea how much this one will weigh? I know it is very early, but if you're going to stuff 340+ HP under the hood I'd hope it would not be weighed down with extra weight. That would make it boring.

Probably a lot. It's very similar to the 300C, so wouldn't be surprised if it was close to or even over 4000lbs. But even so, the 340HP should take care of that. I would bet it'll do 0-60 under 6 seconds.

Transmission is a Mercedes 'manumatic' autostick - you can do auto or manual shifting.

Still not really a manual.

I don't really like the way it looks. Looks like a Datsun on Barry juice.

YEah I saw the concept version at an autoshow a few years back actually. I don't see why these companies are afraid of making cars look too sporty. I heard one guy say they DONT want their sports car to resemble a super car. Why not I ask?

I like the new Dodge car look. Along with the 2005 Mustang. The ones I've seen look SO HOT on the freeway.

I like the Magnum better, but I have this weird thing for station wagons...

Jeff, I stayed in an extended-stay place (can't remember the name) right across from the Silverdome (the street crosses over I-75 and runs right next to DCX on the south side) for three months in the summer of '99 while doing some work with the General. I still don't know why they put me all the way down there when I was working at GMSPO HQ in Grand Blanc...

I actually really like the production version, and prefer it over the concept one. I think they went with the production version because so many people loved the 300C. they kept the beefier look of the 300 over the sportier look of the concept car.

Oh man, that was pretty stupid. That's like, what, a 45 minute drive each way?? What a bunch of morons. Guess they looked at the map & said, "Oh yeah, look, this hotel is only a quarter inch away from Grand Blanc. He can stay here..."

Gotta love those big companies!

You are half right...

Pretty much, it was CHEAPER for them to produce a Charger on the same platform that the 300C/Magnum come off of rather than build a totally new one for the concept.

Cheaper to produce = more profit if it sells (which may allow them to lower the asking price... over what it would have been for something more like the concept).

Just look at how much more a Chrysler "Crossfire" costs over a Magnum/300C. Would you pay $60K for a Charger? Probably not... but they could ask for half of that and probably sell more of them.

I could have sworn that when Car and Driver looked at it, it had suicide doors in the back. Unfortunately, I dont keep old Car and Drivers to look it up.
