Sorry, but I am Not Impressed

Too many options means too many trips to a mechanic when something goes wrong.

I could live without power windows, power door locks, power mirrors, and cruise control, much less all the other stuff they put in cars today.

cooled glovebox.
storage bin inside the door acessible only when the door is open.
some other really minor "features" that are more strange than convenient.

hehe Have you guys seen the new commercial for it? These guys are driving out in the middle of the desert and you hear chopping. They get to this gas station looking place in the middle of the desert and go in and a chef is slicing sushi or something. They go out, put it in the glove box and drive away. heh

Well dayuum... those in my opinion are the basic "add ons" that I want... otherwise they can just keep the dayuum car.

I've already owned a car that had none of those (a 1978 Chevy Monza with "power nothing"... except for the engine) and honesty, it was a sucky experience. I personally never wanna go back THAT far.

Honestly, I can't wait for "rear view cameras" become a standard option in cars... especially when backing up.

I like the other commercial better. The guy is at border patrol and they are doing a routine search of his car. They find out it has so many cubby holes (including the "in the door" one) that they decide to get out the airgun and take his car apart to search it.

Are you an 80yr old technophobe? All of those features are pretty much standard on all new cars. Might as throw away the A/C while your at it.

I like all those cool compartments, and switches and things in a car to fiddle with...that's what makes cars fun!

I think VW has forgotten the concept of Farfenuggen (however the hell you spell it.)

He mentioned that they were in all cars today. I think it's safe to say the guys likes to stick to the basics.

That stuff isn't in ALL cars... but they are common options in many cars... They put "all kinds of stuff" in cars now... but not all cars get all the stuff.

Either way... you can find base models of many cars without some of these add ons... however if you go for the stripped down version, then be prepared for the drop in residual resale value if you should ever want to trade it in.

I bought my "used" Dakota without it having power windows and doors... and I hated the lack of it... so I had aftermarket power doors and windows installed. But hey, to each his or her own.... I've learned my lesson on it.

Nope, I know too many people who have replaced power window motors and other parts in their vehicles. Rolling up/down a window, manually locking a door, adjusting a mirror takes no effort whatsoever. Plus I have never used cruise control on the car that I presently own.

I couldn't live without A/C though.

My last 3 cars, 2-mitsu's and 1 acura all had the power options including a sunroof and I never had a problem with any of the power items. Not getting an option because you think it might break seems a little over the top to me. But hey, to each their own.

How many miles were on the cars when you got rid of them?

Both mitsu's were close to 200k. The acura I only had for a year before I traded it in on a Jeep, which I think you can appreciate, has power NOTHING.

I just realized you're in sunny California. It gets very cold and they use a lot of salt here. Maybe that's a factor.

I have never owned a car without power brakes or power windows since 97 and all have had over 100K miles. I had to replace a power window once for $120 and a power lock for $45. Doesn't want to make me run out and get a stripped down car though...lol

In american cars most of that stuff can go at 120K and the windows start to slow down.

How about the one with the old turntable on top of the roof blaring "All by myself" LAME!

All the commercials seem to be grating on me. The freaking BK commercials are just freaking horrible.

Well the Nas-TBird is 9 years old, has 84,000 miles on her has power everything (windows, doors, cruise control, 6 way driver seat, auto headlamps, dimming maplights, and the whole bit) and I've never had a problem with any of those things...

My problems were mostly under the hood... (tranny, alternator, and recently the intake manifold)

Indianapolis gets plenty of salt from the snow removal... and I drove at least 6 winters with the Bird... until I bought the Dakota back in the day.
