Honda FCX: Ride pollution-free

http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/...rive-fcx_x.htm Kind of interesting but at ~$21 to fill up a tank that goes ~190 miles doesn't seem that great. |

interesting. i was at a major customer yesterday presenting our hybric-electric drivetrain. my company is the leader in the commercial trucking industry for this technology and it's pretty cool being part of it.
what is amazing is the amont of $$$ the the fed is throwing to companies and municipalities for them to purchase these vehicles. i can't tell you how much our system is but one of our top competitors is charging nearly $200k for the system (transmission, electric motor, and regeneration device) and people are buying it. they are definately amazing when it comes to saving brakes and fuel. we have seen people almost double their fuel economy altho' most are around 50%. additionally, we sell a lot to businesses that may only put 5k miles on the vehicle in a year but spend a tremendous amount of time idling so that they can run the PTO unit. like electric companies, tree-trimbing outfits, etc. our device allows them to shut the vehicle off for the vast majority of the time they are using it. it only turns on when it needs to recharge the batteries. cool stuff. i'm just glad my company stuck it out. we invented abs and airbags. but we got sick of dumping money into it before they became standard options through legislation. we sold the airbag rights to TRW....and then the gvt mandated them. ****.

A least a few things came from the price of gas going through the roof. Although I am glad that prices are coming down, I have mixed feelings on the cost of oil being high. I think that if oil stays high more people will implement changes that will cut back on oil use and our dependency on foreign oil.

It's not really pollution free. It just displaces pollution. It's not even all that efficient after you figure in the energy it takes to pressurize the H2.
