Motor Trend Names The 2006 Honda Civic Car of the Year

Motor Trend Announces 2006 Car of the Year

The Honda Civic has an impressive 2006 lineup that includes four new models - all winning the Car of the Year award.

Motor Trend magazine, the world's automotive authority and part of the PRIMEDIA Consumer Automotive Group, today announced the selection of the Honda Civic as the 2006 Motor Trend Car of the Year. The Honda Civic has an impressive 2006 lineup that includes four new models - all winning the Car of the Year award. Now in its 57th year, the Motor Trend Car of the Year Award is the most coveted and most recognized honor in the automotive industry.

"Honda deserves a standing ovation for not playing it safe again," said Angus MacKenzie, editor-in-chief of Motor Trend. "With the sizzling Si, a sleek coupe, an elegant sedan, and a Hybrid that averages 50 miles per gallon, each model shines through with what Motor Trend looks for when crowning Car of the Year. The engineering passion that Honda Motor Company was founded on radiates from these new Civics."

After two full weeks of intense scrutiny, track testing, performance drives, and walk-around appraisals, Motor Trend editors found each of the 2006 Honda Civic models to be fun to drive and terrific value. With their bold, contemporary styling and innovative technology the new Civics are primed for success in one of the most competitive market segments in the country. For the past nine years the Honda Civic has been the best-selling retail compact car in the U.S., with Honda expecting sales for these new models to be even stronger.

The new Si looks pretty cool, but - I wouldn't be caught dead driving any Civic in this post-Fast and Furious/import tuner fad phase the world is currently going through.

It's dead, Jim. Go to any of the civic forums and you'll find tons of ricer garbage for sale, and ricer-flames too numerous to mention.

I LOVE my 02 civic. It's everything I want. I have a 60-mile commute in LV, and the civic is smooth, solid, fuel efficient, and quiet (thanks to 200lbs of Raammat and carpet padding).

Remember, Motor Trend also voted both the Chevy Vega and the Renault Alliance as "Car of the Year".

Not to say that the Civic isn't worthy, but MT (say it) is the only enthusiast rag I don't read...

After seeing a few episodes of MT on TV and reading a few of their magazines it is safe to say that they do not have an unbiased opinion.
