Can someone explain to me please how air intake systems work and what the reall advantage of having them is? I have a 1999 LX Accord... if air intake systems are good, is it worth it to get one for my car? also... whats a good system at a decent price? i saw some stuff on carparts.com, like the AEM Short Ram air intake system. is $190 too expensive?

Thanks a lot for the info people.

Save your money...........I went thru this crap.
I had a civic ex 5spd with an akimoto funnel intake.
It did nothing but made woshing sound......and it suck on accleration because u loose so much low end, especially driving in the city and plus it does not suck in cold air but all the hot air from the radiator. If u wanna get one then spend it on the AEM cold air induction.
Oh yeah the only benefit I see from my experience was racing at the strip but that was about it.

my 2 cent...........

up to u.

Well, I wont be racing so I guess I really don't need it then. I thought that it would actually prolong the life of the car. Oh well.
Thanks for the info!

You know it would save u alot of money if you purchase a K&N drop in filter. Instead of replacing the Honda OEM filter every 20,000 miles or so, all u have to do is wash the K&N in other words K&N is reusable. And the add benefit is a better breathing for your car and maybe better gas mileage.

If you hold the K&N filter up to the light, you can see straight through it. While it lets air through more easily, there seems to be the distinct chance that small particles will make it through the filter in greater numbers than with a traditional filter.

That is why K&N has a oil and clean kit for it.....
And plus the filter work by trapping small particle by static with the aid of the K&N oil.

Well if you want a good intake, that really works, go to maxxfmis.com and you can get one that works and looks good too,
