did this ever happen to you?
you try to be a nice person and let someone who is trying to get into traffic pull out in front of you, and they flash you a cheery smile which makes you feel good, but then....
that brief moment of feeling that you did your good deed for the day is ruined by the guy behind you who didn't appreciate you letting someone in and is honking his horn and flipping you off. ![]() or.... maybe you sympathize with the flip off guy and would never let someone into traffic? i just figure if i do it periodically for someone (let them go ahead of me) that it will come back around one day and someone will let me in.

Welcome to the world of driving. Instead of getting bummed about it, throw the bird back and smile the entire time.
Works for me and I survived all the gun shots haha |

Ahh, the world of traffic. I normally don't let people in, especially those last second cutters who drive to the end of an on-ramp or turn lane and expect to be let in.
![]() Now those folks who are waiting patiently to pull out of a store parking lot, or neighborhood, in heavy traffic...sure, let 'em in. I refused to let a guy in once on I-66 outside of DC. He pulled up beside me on the shoulder and flashed a gun at me. Man, that kinda stuff just isn't worth it. ![]()

Regardless of general road rage going around, I try to let people in whenever I can hoping it'll come back around later. It hardly ever does, but I can still hope.

Once freeway constuction closed the right lanes in front of me. This dude was signaling and had no place to go. So I stopped and waved him in. A minute or 2 later he was one lane over from me and I needed to get over cuz the lane I was in had workers in it. I signaled thinking he would definitely let me in especially since I just let him in.
Instead he sped up, blocked me out and left me with no place to go. That bastird!!!! It was one of the only times that I had gotten stuck while trying to merge and had to wait for some other *******s before someone let me in. Los Angeles was recently rated the 5th worst place for road rage or rude/bad drivers, but in my heart it will always be #1.

"Almost" makes me glad I'm not able to drive. (I say "almost" because I still have to deal with insane drivers who don't want to stop at a marked crosswalk). Heck, recently I was within inches of being slammed into by a bus who's driver wasn't watching where he was going.

I hate those drivers that tailgate for no apparent reason when there is heavy traffic and you know you won't get anywhere. Mind as well leave a 2-3 car length and just roll your way through traffic instead of just causing an accident. (605S-105W or 105E-605N always rear-end accidents). Those people must be in a hurry, yet end up in an accident getting them late to go to work or late being home.
I hate people that tailgate and end up rearending you cause of stupidity.

I HATE THAT! That happens to me all the time. When I am driving in traffic and it is damn obvious that I cant go any faster because there is someone RIGHT in front of me, but the guy behind me still finds the need to tailgate me. Another thing I hate is when kids crank up their stereo, particularly their base when they see me at a light, thinking that I even care. |

happens all the time on city streets and on the freeway where I travel. It get really annoying when you start hearing there license plate rattle on their trunk. Doesn't even sound great. Blast music in your car can't hear emergency sirens at all.But great free music at times. |

Come drive out in Seatle. Everybody lets people get out, everybody is a nice driver. It becomes a pain in the ass since nobody knows how to drive but overall it is nice since nobody flicks you off or honks at you.
When I lived in Boston people would lay on the horn because they were stuck in traffic due to construction. In Seattle, people WON"T honk unless you almost cause an accident. |

Someone on a freakin' MOPED (Vespa or ripoff) pulled up beside me twice a coupla months ago while stopped at a red light, approached my window, and said he was going to knock my teeth out/bash my face/etc. Technically that could be considered a possible carjacking, so he wouldn't exactly know what he was getting into. But a freakin Vespa vs. car? Gimme a break. It was all I could do to not laugh at this idiot simply b/c he thought he was a badass on a coupla cylinders.
The guy mentioned above that waved a gun was committing a crime of brandishing. That can be ok in some situations, likely, if someone is breaking your window and overtly threatening you with a weapon or something, like the idiot above was or could have been, but waving a gun on an interstate out of road rage is just stupid. Get his license, call the highway patrol, and eff up his life for the next few years. A guy also followed me to the hospital a while back from the interstate b/c I was driving really fast (emergent call from ICU). He was in a small Scion, was playing road rage games with me (cutting in front, hitting his brakes "to teach me a lesson" etc. I tired of that quickly, and proceeded to find a gap in traffic and, well, left him in the dust, for that reason and the one mentioned above. He evidently followed me somehow, though I didn't see him in my rearview when I took the exit, so he was really watching me from afar. Then he waited 45 min in the parking garage by my car to harass me and vaguely threaten me for driving so fast, etc.when he was the idtiot playing dangerous road games. I was just trying to cruise in the left lane at very, very extralegal speeds to get to the emergency. I explained why I was driving really fast and asked him to back off. He approached me slightly, and I took an appropriate stance, as I didn't know if he was armed, and he damn sure didn't know if I was. It could have turned ugly, but I was able to defuse the situation, etc. Really makes you think of all the nutjobs on the road. Last edited by Houdini : 05-26-2006 at 01:22 AM. |

Ya know... if you let somebody in, you sacrifice what, 30'? 30' at 30mph is .68 seconds, at 60ft at 60 miles an hour its .68 seconds.
So you have to let 88 cars in front of you to lose a minute in your commute. Start being nice.

Not really, I find traffic flowing alot smoother (Since I hit traffic driving to work and getting off work and most people leave gaps for stupidity drivers that merge in and out of traffic and for last minute lane changers). It really those people that tailgate end up getting in a car accident, or those that change lanes last minute don't see the car in front of them and rearend the car in front. Oh and those people that completely stop on the freeway just to stare at a dyam accident which doesn't even concern them. Don't get me wrong everyone takes a glance. But is it neccessary to almost come to a complete stop to view an accident which doesn't even concern yourself? Quote:

![]() I'm all for letting someone get over so they can get to their exit, or get out of the way of traffic merging into the right lane, but what gets me is are the guys who insist on you letting them into your lane just because they think that your lane might be going a bit faster at the moment. |

Texans always let you in - we're good guys like that. We also pull over to the shoulder so you can pass on a two-lane - we're good guys like that.
