best way to sell a used car?
Does any one know the best way to sell a used car? I went to carmax but they are only offering me $300 for it. I went to kbb.com and it says that trade in is worth about $2500.

i sold my car using craigslist and it sold in 2 days....a little above kbb's private sale value.
300 for a 2500 trade-in value? that's ridiculous. that's even worse than dealerships! |

Not sure what to tell you here. Craigslist has been very good for some people I know. The big question, though, is how soon do you want to sell it? If you have the time, you can probably get a better deal.
I lucked out when I bought my last car. I had a 1991 V6 Camaro that I paid $3k for in 1997. Of course, it needed some work over the years, but it was very reliable and I drove it until April of '04, when I bought my CPO '03 German machine. Because it had working AC (I had retrofit it with R134 at that - myself), they gave me $1000 for it. So $2000 over 7 years was a damn good deal. Shop around dealerships. Some are more fair than others, as I found out. One dealer asked me what I planned to do with it, and before I answered, he volunteered that it could be used as an anchor. Asshat. It was in fine running condition, was fun to drive, etc. I only regret not removing my heavy-duty jumper cables from the back wall panel (oops...big forget), and not taking it for one last parking lot adventure - something I would have never done when it was my daily driver. J-turns, bootleggers, etc. It had the torque and good tires. Damn I miss that car sometimes. Then again, when I'm zipping down a US highway at sometimes exotic speeds, in utter silence and good mileage, I can usually forget about it. ![]() |
