That Old Car Smell
Well, looks like we have selected a car for Sammy. A 2003 Mazda Protege 5 door with 115k on it.
This is really bizarre to me. My kid is driving!
But it's also weird because I would have loved a car like this at that age. I loved 5 door hatches and never could afford a decent one at the time. Hell, my first car was an 800 dollar 1974 super beetle. But you can get a decent car for 800 bucks anymore. So yeah, we are spending around 5 grand. 5 grand for a car in great mechanical shape, good body shape, and is cooler then the first 3 cars I ever owned. So it's weird because....because I'm kind of jealous, actually. I just bought a new car. And it's the best car I've ever had, with more toys and doo dads and power then I've ever had.
But it's not the first car. You always remember that first car. Whether it be a cherry car or a POS, you always remember it. You remember everything about it. So I'm jealous because that's just a wonderful time in your life. That first bit of pure freedom.
On the other hand, it's a manual, so I'll have to teach her how to drive it first. So maybe I can pretend a bit.
