Need Cake: Difficulty = Hard

I said Hard

Sorry.

Every year, I make my wife bake me a cake. Last year it was a New York Cheesecake (**** graham crust, in it's ass). The year before, 3 layer chocolate cake with homemade frosting. Cherry pie, Apple pie, pineapple upside-down cake, and a hostess cake (Think Any Hostess-brand product all pressed together, with icing and candles).

This year I'm stumped. I was thinking maybe a Black Forest chocolate cake, or maybe some kind of gelatin pie. I'm fairly open to trying new desserts, unless they have stuff I don't like.

Things I don't like:
Coconut
Carrots
Kiwi
Veggies
Mincemeat pies
Fruitcake

Things I like:
Lemons
Cherries
Chocolate
Cheesecake (she said she will kill me before she handmixes one of these again )
Fruit

It doesn't have to be a cake/pie, it just needs to be a dessert. Please toss your suggestions in here.

My sweet tooth will hate you all, but my belly won't.

Do you want a recipe, or just ideas?

How about a souffle, or a fancy rolled cake?

Two cake favorites in our house are Fresh Apple Cake and Lemon Jello Cake.

A co-worker brought in a Meyer Lemon Coffee Cake she saw in Martha Stewart's magazine and it was pretty darn good too!

How about the Chocolate Kahlua Cake I described in this (Pan/Cake Recipes) thread.

(but this won't get many points for difficulty)

Nija, go for the Dulce de Leche Trifle. It's rich, rich, rich. Creamy, moist (duh) and soooo good. Layers of incredible goodness.
Yummers. Makes me wish I was at your house birthday dinner night. Btw, is it for your birthday or just to re-establish your dominance over your wife?

I like those cakes where you poke holes in it with a toothpick then dump jello onto the top so it seeps into the cake, then frost it.

Oh man, I remember having a slice at a friend's house long ago. Oh man... Yes!

Jello is evil.

So I ended up changing my mind at the last moment and went with: Lemon Layer cake

My Impression: Meh.

The cake came out almost bread like, not light and fluffy. Wife thinks she should have sifted the flour, but the directions didn't say to until much later. The filling & frosting were awesome though (although I must say, you have to like lemons )

Lemon cake is awesome, but I always thought it was *supposed* to be pretty dense, like a pound cake. Or like me when I first wake up.

I've never had a Lemon cake before so I don't know. However if it is supposed to be dense, I can see me not being a fan of it. It's tasty, don't get me wrong, just not something I like.
