That's a pretty specific pie right there. If EVER I'm in Sitka, AK, I'm now obligated to go to their airport to try the peanut butter pie.

Me? I'm a fan of all major pies. If it's well done, it's a good pie for me.

French apple/apple strudel

FYI, Marie Callendar's is having their $5.99 pie sale right now. Nothing fantastic but they're not bad.

I would say that cheesecake has no place in a discussion about pie. It's a completely different species. (I would take a slice of a good cheesecake over any kind of pie.)

Is cheesecake really a cake... or is it a pie?

Cheescake is prepared just like most pies...and poured into a graham cracker crust just like a pie. Yes, it has "cake" in it's name, but honestly... isn't it really a "pie"?

Let's say this cream made of cheese and various other delicious and lethal edibles wasn't made of cheese, but rather pumpkin. It wouldn't then be called pumpkincake, nay - I agree with DF - it's a pie by another name.

But, eh. What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.

There's cake. There's pie. And there's cheesecake. All quite distinct. Just because a cheesecake is shaped and cut like a pie doesn't make it a pie, any more than it makes meatloaf a piece of bread.

Pie > 99% of all desserts

Blueberry is my favorite! One of my grandmothers used to make a killer ricotta pie and the other made a killer rhubarb pie.

If you say so....

Still, cheesecake filling is so similar to other pie fillings that honestly, I don't make the connection to your analogy.

Bread does not equal meat, and we are not basing the connection on just the shape alone.

Most cakes rise when you cook them, most pies don't. Cheesecake doesn't rise either. Most cakes are not poured into a "shell", however most pies are. It still more closely resembles a pie and the "pie family".

But whatever... just enjoy the cheesecake is what I say (make mine with strawberry topping please. )
