Here in Indy, grilled corn, dipped in butter and covered in pepper is quite popular (especially at the State Fair).
One corn item I didn't see in the lists above is GRITS!!! Ummm YUMMY!!!!! ![]()

Hah, all this time I never knew that hominy was corn. DUH! And I love grits. Oh, and grilled corn on the cob too. Popular at the fair in San Diego, also. |

Heh.. yup. Honestly, I don't like "hominy" (which is different from grits)... it just don't taste right to me. I do love creamed corn though... truly goodness! Corn on the Cob is the bomb diggy too. |

I don't like the corn in "hominy" form. But I do like Grits. http://www.foodsubs.com/GrainCorn.html Quote:
Trust me.. "Hominy Grits" taste NOTHING like "hominy" corn. The first time I had hominy corn, I ended up spitting it out. ![]() |

I'm with a lot of you about corn on the cob and things like corn flakes & other cereal. Not a big fan of corn tortillas. But probably my 2 favorite corn dishes I've had at restaurants. One was at a bbq place. Corn muffins with corn kernels in them. So so very good. The other is ... actually, another bbq place. LOL
Cheesy Corn Bake: * 2 tablespoons butter or margarine * 4 teaspoons flour * 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder * 3/4 cup milk * 1 1/2 cups sharp American cheese, shredded * 1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, cut up * 3 (10 ounce) packages frozen whole kernel corn, thawed * 3 ounces diced ham Directions 1. Melt butter; stir in flour and garlic powder. 2. Add milk; cook & stir over medium heat. 3. Heat until thick and bubbly; stir in cheeses. Cook/stir over low heat until cheeses melt; stir in corn & ham. 4. Bake in 2 qt casserole for 45 minutes at 350. One of the best, if not THE best, side dishes I've ever had. Not very weight friendly but damn good. lol

Amongst my group of friends we have a similar grilled corn receipe. Substitute the pepper for grated cheese (Parmesan usually) and minced garlic mixed with the butter. Spread the garlic butter one thickly, sprinkle large amounts of cheese, reattach husk, cook over low flame, turning every 15 minutes for 45 minutes to an hour. Absolute awesomeness. ![]() |

To the palate, grits are much different than whole hominy corn. Just because it is made from the same raw material doesn't make it the same. Just as a French fry is not the same as mashed potatoes.. yet they both are "potatoes". The taste of hominy doesn't equate to the taste of hominy grits. Have you ever eaten Hominy Zippy? Food is all about presentation and taste, and "hominy" just ain't cuttin' it in my book. ![]() |
