MTV Music Television used to actually show music videos. The Home and Garden Network used to show you how to make things and plant your garden or flowers and the Food Network used to show you how to prepare foods. Now they are mostly game shows. No wonder I don't watch them much anymore. Maybe some Top Chef once in a while. Yeah- I loved Mario.

I think you're being a bit tough on HGTV. They have design star and that new $250,000 challenge crap but other than that there is very little "game showiness" to their network. I find the majority of their programming very good.

Food Network disappoints me with the increased push on reality tv. Food Network Challenge is terrible as is the Next Food Network Star. However, I think you see a prime time lineup that doesn't really cater to their core audience. I am a big fan of the Neely's and a few of the other recent auditions. I wish some of them were on more than just the weekends.

bravo's top chef is such a better show than damn near anything on food network. emril 10 years ago was fun, mario was amazing and sometimes iron chef draws me in, but nothing else

I have the cheapest Time Warner cable package at about $13 a month and no longer have those channels and don't really miss them that much. I now waste my free time on the computer instead of in front of the TV.

Good eats is the only thing saving Food Network from death. It's the only show where food is featured and <gasp> it's intelligent.

Sadly, Food Network thought it could thrive with housemoms who (they thought) wanted to be entertained and not bother with cooking and that's why you have that hack Rachel Ray have like 15 shows including what must be the most IQ dulling moment in tv in that stupid talk show she has.

All of the real food people have migrated to Travel (No Reservations and Bizzare Foods) and Bravo (Top Chef). If food network died today, I would be sad that Alton Brown would be out of a job, but instantly happy to know that he could go anywhere else and do a better job.

Rachel Ray's talk show isn't on food network. I too think Good Eats is the best show on food network but also like Michael Chairello, Giada, the Neely's, Jamie and others. All of these shows tend to focus more on the food than the entertainment aspect of food network.

good eats is hands down the best show.
i like tyler florence. and that's about it. Bobby's boy meets grill never impressed me, and his throwdown was more annoying.
all the other reality stuff (ie imposter chef on dinner impossible, etc) is something that i'll watch if there's absolutely nothing else on...
I enjoy watching paula deen cuz she cracks me up, but i'd never touch her recipes unless i wanted to kill myself.
I think giada's and ina's food is good after trying their recipes, but their shows bore me.
the neely's just need to get a room. I can't stand watching that show.
is Jamie Oliver still on? he was pretty good, but i thought his was just one season. the other brit, nigela was good, but i don't remember her having such wide hips....
oh, and mario hasn't been on foodnetwork in a while...


there's too much wrong with food network, and not enough right... sure there's a few things good and right, but way too much wrong.

I love Alton, Giada and Paula Dean. I'm indifferent toward Ina because, like Mr. Bourdain, she creeps me out. I've made some of her recipes and they turned out good. But I only made them once. The others have things that we make at least monthly. We are also more willing to try their dishes because the difficulty level isn't as high, so my wife and I have fun cooking.

Rachel Ray can DIAF.
