Miami Vice...

When I was a kid this was a pretty dang entertaining show, so I decided to go see it this weekend.

What a horrible mistake.

1. They tried to be too damn technical. "Wow, look at this FLIR image". Nobody knows what the hell FLIR is except for mil or tech geeks. That happened through the *WHOLE* movie, "Better duck under radar or the AWACS planes will get ya". Yeah, like everybody know an AWACS plane is a converted airliner with a big radome on the top that is uber-powerful.

2. Colin Farrel tried to be too "badass". His whole gravelly/deep voice sounded like utter garbage. It reminded me of certain scenes in Batman where Christian Bale tried to sound all tough in the suit (This is not a rip on batman, I liked it). Seriously, "badass" sounding voices turn out like utter garbage. Add to that his totally unbelievable lines, his delivery was utter crap. Foxx, on the other hand, was cool playing the hole. The lines didn't sound fake and he sounded like he *BELONGED* there. He is a *much* better actor than ferrel and should have had a more leading role.

3. Starting off in the dance club, interrupting, throwing us into another story line with Mr. Scrawny and Horrible Actor sucked. It put the whole story line into a massive jumble.

4. Where were the goshdarn babes? We only got 2 chicks and no bikinis or anything? Seriously, the show had TONS of hot chicks on the beach and stuff.

5. The whole movie was too rushed, it's like they took 30 hours of film, had a nice continuous story, could have cut it down to 2 hours but still be continuous, but slapped togeather disjointed scenes.

I love Heat, LOTM, Collateral...etc. But I *HATED* this. I can't believe MM would release this steaming pile of dog poo. It grossed $22M and everybody is saying it beat the crap out of Pirates, wow, a couple million bucks on opening weekend compard to a movie thats been out for weeks????? This is supposed to be a hot summer movie? It only made $22M? WTF?

Sitting in theater = no google with many techno illiterate people

Sitting on computer typing on a forum largely focused around computer stuff = google with many techno literate people

Yeah... I can see how that would become a "common use term"

The previews looked like crap...not gonna even bother with it. Just seems like a "different movie with the same name" type of thing.

Here's a review from The Inquirer that also raises the issue of RIAA/MPAA propaganda in the film.

Re: BigJohn, that is more or less what it was. They took a slapdash movie, smacked "Miami Vice" on it, and marketed it as a hot summer hit.

Really sad, it kinda tarnished the name. Especialy with Trailer Trash-esque Farrel.
