Local Bands
So I've been listening to a few local bands lately. I'm really surprised at how good some of these bands are.
Without further adieu, I will share some links and some thoughts Hopefield These guys are great. I can't believe they don't have a record contract. They remind me of Jimmy Eat World quite a bit, but with their own flavor. Saw them live at The Wire this last Sunday and they really rocked the house. I'd recommend them to anyone that likes Jimmy Eat World, Incubus, Bloc Party, or that sort of music. The lead singer is a great guy and very willing to talk to people about his music and also willing to just chat. I really like these guys. Population Game Saw them at Cal Poly a week ago and they put on a great show. Their sound is reminiscent of Ben Folds Five and Queen. Liked them so much I bought their EP. While the EP is good, they really shine live. Just a great jazzy, funky sound that mixes with a bit of alternative. Lead singer was a nice guy, chatted with him for a bit. I'd love to see them live again soon. Stacy*Clark Saw her a while ago at Cal Poly. Good music and she's not bad looking to boot (the photo of her on her EP on iTunes isn't the best, don't let it fool you). A bit of a guilty pleasure since the music is a bit... "girly", but I like it none the less. I hope to see her live again sometime soon. Any local/unsigned/indie bands you guys have been listening to? What have you been listening to? Anything to recommend to me?

Spitalfield is a fantastic Chicago band that also has Jimmy Eat World resemblances. I have all three of their CD's so if anyone wants to hear some more of them, just let me know. Highly recommended.
Also, The Dog and Everything is an extremely catchy pop/rock band from the North Side (skip over that remixed track on their Myspace). Saw these guys many a time while at college. They have a few more songs up at their PureVolume page too.

I listen to a lot of local bands and frequent their shows.
Ghostland Observatory These guys put on the best show in Austin. Everybody's dancing and girls go crazy and hop on stage. The frontman has some crazy dance moves too. They're an electronic/rock duo, sort of like Daft Punk. Voxtrot Voxtrot is probably my favorite Austin indie band. They haven't even released a CD yet (3 EPs - all bad ass) but Pitchfork and all critics have been sucking their dick for a while now. I don't know if you'd like either one as I found the bands you linked to be alright, but not really my style . |

Was listening to the Ken Oak Band on their website earlier today, what I heard was intriguing. Their myspace seems to be down though...

Some really good music!! I am impressed. I thought that the twenty-somethings were only creating head banging music.
Population Game sounds like Queen. Gennarose has a powerful nice voice. Any more links would be appreciated. |

Yeah Population Game sounds like Queen to me as well, with a bit of Ben Folds sprinkled in.
Ghostland Observatory: Not bad! They remind me of Depeche Mode. Ken Oak: Great stuff. Gennarose: Sorta female John Mayer-ish. Spitalfield: Very catchy. The Dog and Everything: Very catchy. Voxtrot: Nice. Not a bad link among these. Last edited by Airencracken : 12-07-2006 at 05:04 PM. |
